Galant: IDF Preparing to Reoccupy Gaza

OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant said Friday that the IDF was preparing to reoccupy the Gaza Strip if the Hamas-led Palestinian government did not halt rocket fire from the area.
“We’re talking about more aggressive military activity,” Galant said in an interview to Ma’ariv. “If the price we have to pay becomes unreasonable as a result of increased [Palestinian] attacks, then we shall have to take all steps, including occupying the Gaza Strip,” he continued.

Israeli communities adjacent to the Gaza Strip have lost hope: Just over half a year since the disengagement, and their homes, some of which lie a couple of hundreds of meters from Qassam launch pads, have become a fire zone.
Hundreds of Qassam rockets were fired into these communities in the last few months. Promises of fortified roofs and sealed rooms proved to be nothing but sweet talk.
At the exception of one community, nothing happened.
“We are like geese in fire range,” residents told Isreal’s leading newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth. “No one cares what’s happening here. No one. The state has abandoned us.”

Several MKs strongly criticized on Thursday the decision by United Arab List members to meet with a Hamas parliamentarian in east Jerusalem.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called the meeting an “official representation of terror in the Knesset.”
Livni went on to explain that Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert proposed the revocation of Hamas PLC members’ Jerusalem residency because “the right to be in PA parliament does not include the right to be a member of a Palestinian terror organization.” Livni said that the Interior Ministry has the right to revoke the residency of whoever is deemed disloyal to Israel.
