Parsha Ki Tisa 5769 — Torah Principle, Immoral Law and Peer Group Pressure

.

By Moshe Burt

For many years, since 1991 when Parsha Ki Tisa marked my son Philip’s Bar Mitzvah, I have spoken or written about a posuk in our Parsha which alludes to an event which is recorded in Torah 40 years later, in a subsequent Parsha.

The posuk being referred to (Sh’mos, Perek 30, posuk 30) says that while Moshe Rabbeinu was on Har Sinai being given Torah, Hashem said;

“You shall anoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them to minister (to serve) me.”

This seemingly obscure posuk which pops up in a couple of slightly different forms in both Parsha Tetzaveh and in our Parsha raises a challenging question which cuts to the chase of what we continue to face today. The question is; what about that Pinchas Ben Elazar? Why was he not anointed as a Kohen with his brothers? read more

Parsha Va’etchanan 5768 — Consolation After Expulsion, After the Cruelty, Arrogance of Israeli Governance?

.

by, Moshe Burt

The Haftorah for our Parsha begins, “Nachamu, Nachamu Ami yomar Elokeichem” — “Comfort, comfort my people — says your G’d.” (Yishaiya, 40:1) This sentiment seems to be silent, but yet a theme of Parsha Va’etchanan.

In the beginning of Parsha, Moshe Rabbeinu recalls for the B’nai Yisrael how he entreated Hashem for permission to cross the Jordan River but that his request was denied. Instead, he was consoled by viewing the Land from Mount Pisgah. (L’lmod Ul’Lamed – Parsha Va’etchanan, page 161) read more

Gov’t of Israel: For Shame; A Jew Does NOT Abandon Another Jewish Brother

.

Commentary;

Rav Shmuel Eliyahu repeats yet again what this blog has reiterated numerous times; the systematic betrayal of Jonathan Pollard, again and again, by sucessive ISRAELI governments and by establishment so-called “Jewish leaders.”

This author holds that it is the abandonment of Pollard which set in motion the precedent and mindset for the abandonment of South Lebanon, the Oslo “agreements”, the expulsions of Jews from their homes, communities and Jewish Land in Gush Katif and the 4 Shomron towns. The abandonment of Pollard by the ISRAELI government paved the way down the step road of decay that has led to the absurdity and humiliation of Annapolis. read more

According to a poll conducted by Ha’aretz, 30% of the Jewish public in Israel support IDF soldiers’ refusing any orders related to the expulsion of Jews from their homes.

Earlier this week, soldiers of the Duchifat Brigade refused to take part in the expulsion of two Jewish families from the former marketplace in Hevron.

The Yesha Rabbis’ Council of Judea and Samaria issued a statement of support for the IDF soldiers who refused to take part in the eviction. “We bless the Israeli soldiers who obeyed the command of their Jewish hearts and did not take part in the expulsion.” read more

Parsha Beshalach 5767: Being As One With Our Brother’s Difficulties

by, Moshe Burt

Our Parsha opens by stating; “It happened when Pharoh sent out the people that Hashem did not lead them by the way of the Philistines, because it was near, for Hashem said, ‘Perhaps the people will reconsider when they see a war, and they will return to Mitzriyim.'” (Sefer Sh’mos, Perek 13, posuk 17)

Torah Gems cites a vort from R’ Baruch Abba Rakowsky who says; “Perhaps the people will reconsider when they see a war, and they will return to Mitzriyim.” read more

Israelis Who Understand the “Palestinian Dream”, Disdain the Jewish Connection With Eretz Yisrael

Jews Over the Line, By Nadav Shragai (Haaretz)

Excerpts;

Even more than she is sinning against historic truth in her desire to restore the Green Line to school maps, Education Minister Yuli Tamir is sinning by separating and distancing the community that lives “over the line” from the Israeli collective. Tamir is not only a former leader of Peace Now, one of those who charted the movement’s course; she is also a graduate of countless dialogues, “covenants of brothers” and similar activities, whose purpose was to preserve the weakening Jewish Israeli fabric. But by reinstating the Green Line on maps, Tamir is instituting a kind of ideological persecution against the more than a quarter of a million Jewish citizens who live in Judea and Samaria. read more

Justice Barak on Involuntary Displacement of a Person From His Home: “Seriously Harms His Dignity, His Liberty” — Applies for Arabs but Not for Jews…

Excerpts;

A barometer for measuring the full dimensions of the human and legal scandal inherent in the system of persecution of the Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria is provided by the decision by Supreme Court President Aharon Barak, in HCJ Ajuri (7015/02).

The Commander of IDF Forces in Judea and Samaria issued an “order assigning place of residence” against the Arab appellants, residents of the area, in which they were ordered to move to the Gaza Strip for a period of two years. In his decision the justice portrayed the harsh security circumstances: the terrorists “are supported by part of the civilian population, and by their families and relatives.” The State of Israel was faced with “a new and difficult reality,” and, on this background, the decision spoke of the transfer of the family members of suiciders or those conducting severe terror attacks, and their dispatch to Gaza. read more

Hypocritical Quote for the Ages from COS Halutz: “Our Moral Strength and Value …”

COS Dan Halutz said in a letter to soldiers and officers:

“We are being tested at this time. Our moral strength and value will reflect on the state of Israel and its residents and on their ability to continue to stand up to the threat on the front.”

Commentary;

This seemingly high-minded quote was spoken by the Chief of Staff who oversaw, and under whom the IDF served as the vehicle for, the persecution, eviction and expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif and from the Shomron — integral parts of Eretz Yisrael, our divine legacy from Shemayim. MB read more

Who Says that “Most US Jews Support Realignment”?? Don’t You Dare Muzzle the Jews for Your Own Self Agrandisement …

Commentary;

If Professor Aumann fears Israel’s becoming a Bolshevik state, what can be said for the situation of American Jews. But then again, if American Jews made Aliyah, all of these fat-cat Yudenrat below might have no constituency and lose their big fat paychecks! And imagine if all of those Jews were over here helping to turn the tide against the demagogues and turning the Olmerts, Bassis, Peres’ and Baraks out of their high offices.

Further, this author will add what has been vocalized on a number of previous occasions; namely that all Jews have suffered murder, pogroms, blood-libels, brutalizations and persecutions throughout these millennia in Chutz L’Aretz and are thus collectively, mentally the equal of any Israeli in terms of the collective resultant suffering and impact of the same on generations of our brethren. read more
