The Speaker, Kadima MK Dalia Itzik, called this week upon the Government of Israel to declare the coming year the “Year of the North.” She said that tourism from abroad and from Israel should be encouraged to the Galilee and northern Israel.

Her words are representative of widespread national sympathy for the hundreds or thousands who were forced to flee the north during the recent war and seek alternate housing in hotels and dormitories or with relatives and friends. The Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation announces a festive Rosh Chodesh (New Month) Torah reading at the Rachel’s Tomb shrine in Bethlehem.

The prayer service will take place this Thursday morning, with buses leaving from Arzei HaBirah-Shimon HaTzaddik St. (Jerusalem) at 8 AM, and making pick-ups at the Great Synagogue and Gilo Junction.

In the view of this author, that this could suddenly be is unfathomable.
