Homesh: In Retrospect

Commentary;

After last week’s re-entry into Homesh, this author, with the help of various media coverage during and after the fact, tries to set the 2 1/2 day Homesh event in perspective.

The left and some of the media tried to present this event as an arrogant power-grab on behalf of Orange activism. In doing so, they’ve pushed all of the wrong buttons.

But are enough Jews wise and savvy enough to discern psychological projection when they see it?

Olmert, Dershowitz and Destructive Historical Revisionism Regarding Statehood

Double Standard Watch: The Right of Return: What if the Shoe Were On the Other Foot?, by Alan Dershowitz (Jerusalem Post)

Recently, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced that, as a matter of deep principle, he would never accept a right of return by Palestinian refugees and their descendants. His argument was simple: the Palestinians, aided by the surrounding Arab countries, started a war against the new state of Israel in an effort to destroy it; had they instead accepted the partition—the two-state solution—Israel would have accepted the presence of significant numbers of Palestinians in the new Jewish state. But once the Palestinians started a genocidal war, the inevitable consequence was the creation of refugees. Even if some were in fact forced to leave by Israeli military commanders, such actions were in response to the attack by the Palestinians. read more

Residents of Maaleh Rechavam Sue Maariv Newspaper for Libel, by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz (Israel National News)

Excerpts;

After requests that the newspaper publish a retraction were refused, according to Drori Bar-Levav, general secretary of the community, it was decided to sue Maariv.

Lawyers representing 14 residents of Maaleh Rechavam filed suit with the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Sunday. The defendants named in the case are Amnon Dankner, Maariv’s editor-in-chief, journalist Uri Yablonka, and Maariv’s publishing corporation. According to the suit, the representation of the community as it appeared in a May 2006 article by Yablonka defamed them, and negatively impacted Maaleh Rechavam residents’ businesses and relations with their Arab neighbors. read more

Olmert: Peace Within Five Years

Full Text;

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Saturday night that a comprehensive regional peace plan could be reached within five years. While Olmert said that the Saudi plan, which calls for Israel to give the PA all of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza and to accept several million Arabs as citizens, is “not good enough,” he said that it is much better than the peace plans offered in the past. Olmert called the plan “very interesting,” and said that he sees Saudi Arabia’s role in the Middle East as very positive. read more
