MKs Hit Out at UAL-Hamas meeting

Excerpts;

Several MKs strongly criticized on Thursday the decision by United Arab List members to meet with a Hamas parliamentarian in east Jerusalem.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called the meeting an “official representation of terror in the Knesset.”

Livni went on to explain that Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert proposed the revocation of Hamas PLC members’ Jerusalem residency because “the right to be in PA parliament does not include the right to be a member of a Palestinian terror organization.” Livni said that the Interior Ministry has the right to revoke the residency of whoever is deemed disloyal to Israel. read more

Coalition Machinations Continue: ‘Convergence’ Watered Down or Disappearing? Once Snookered, Be on Guard!

Olmert and Peretz to Hold Press Conference at 2 P.M.

Excerpts;

“It is very important for the country that there be the widest coalition possible, with representation from as many different sectors in the nation as possible, provided that there be wide agreement on the government’s policies of advancing the peace process and running a stable economy with socioeconomic sensitivity,” Olmert said in a meeting with National Union-National Religious Party MKs.

In an effort to form that coalition, Olmert’s convergence plan will apparently not be mentioned in the coalition guidelines. Instead, the guidelines will follow the outline of Olmert’s victory speech last Tuesday in which he reached out to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas but left open the possibility of Israel acting on its own if the PA is not willing to make necessary sacrifices. read more

Beneath the Kadima Mindset; Rabin in Reverse: If They’re Not Good Boys, We’ll Just Give Them More …

Column One: ‘Let’s Ignore Hamas’, by Caroline Glick

Excerpts;

HAMAS’S RISE to power renders it all but impossible to deny the connection between the insurgency in Iraq and the global jihad in general and the Palestinian war with Israel. Indeed, in his first statement as foreign minister, Mahmoud Zahar attacked the US claiming, “America is committing big crimes against the Arab and Islamic countries.”

Yet as Hamas prepares for war on all levels, Israel is about to form a government led either by Kadima or Labor whose politicians insist on pretending that there is no problem here. Kadima’s plan to remove Israeli communities and IDF forces from Judea and Samaria is based on an abject refusal to admit that the areas abandoned will be taken over by Hamas. Furthermore, as Olmert has repeatedly stated, Kadima refuses to acknowledge that Hamas is even a threat to Israel. read more

Mofaz: Political Lightweight, Diplomatic Naivete’, Height of Arrogance …

Mofaz Presents Israel’s Final Borders

Full Text;

Israel will begin setting its final borders over the next two years according to a plan based on including the major West Bank settlement blocs and the Jordan Valley, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Spelling out his vision of the future borders, Mofaz said in an exclusive interview that Israel would retain control over the settlements of Ofarim and Beit Aryeh, currently on the Palestinian side of the security fence. He also indicated that the withdrawal from the West Bank would include civilians and the military. But, he said, Israel would retain a “free hand” to operate within the evacuated areas at its discretion. read more

Connecting the Dots on the Jericho Action?

The Real Olmert??

A friend has sent a couple of emails, the most recent being this morning regarding his take on the Jericho action and the seizure of the 6 Rachavim Ze’evi Assassins/Co-conspirators. These emails seem to strongly support the premise expressed in the Emmanuel Winston article below;

17 March, 2006;

The one thing that really seems to prove coordination between the players is the instantaneous move by the IDF once the monitors drove past. Like, so what if they drove past? Does that mean they abandoned the prison permanently? Maybe they went out to lunch? Maybe they were coming back? Maybe there were other observers left behind? Wouldn’t it have created a major diplomatic row if the IDF went in and the Brits hadn’t really left or were coming back? read more

Why Peres Secret Meeting With Abbas?

Peres Meets with Abbas in Secret

Check out what Barak of IRIS has to say by clicking here.

Commentary;

Perhaps Olmert’s hands have not yet been soiled by an Abbas handshake, but for sure Peres’ hands have been soiled and worse at the hands of both Abbas and Arafat. But it is easy to buy Barak’s reaction, namely regarding an Olmert “insurance policy” against Arab terrorists of any stripe taking terrorist actions which would “jeopardize” Olmert’s chances for election victory.
