Police Brutality in Amona: Compendium

Why the Unprovoked Police Violence?

Received this email from a local list;

Haim Ramon (of all people) asked a good question on the radio yesterday – how come the supposed dozens or hundreds of rock throwing “hooligans” weren’t arrested on the spot?

Clearly, there were people throwing rocks, but having served in both the army and MAGAV here, and from conversations I’ve had with American cops and soldiers, I can vouch for the fact that anybody lifting a hand against a cop is immediately dealt with in the strongest of terms. read more

Investigative Report by David Bedein; “Amona”: What Really Transpired – Call for Commission of Investigation

Commentary;

And just like all other “Israeli Commissions of Investigation” formed in the past, it will probably be one of stone-walling, whitewashing and skewing in favor of the Regime. Just like the commissions after the Yom Kippur War, after the Sabra and Shatilla Camps, after the shootings at Ma’arat Hamachpela in the early 1990s, after the Rabin Assassination, about illegal kidnapping by the Regime of the time of S’fardi infants in the hospital and on and on, Justice is never done, truth is never served by all of these so-called Blue Ribbon Israeli Commissions of Investigation. The perpetrators never pay the price and go free to up the ante, to do still greater sins with total immunity from the people scrutiny. MB read more

Perspective on Sharon …

Another Tack: Ocean of Schmaltz [Instead of Policy-Driven Democratic Choice], by Sarah Honig

Excerpts;

“The populace evidently reveled wallowing in this bottomless ocean of schmaltz and saccharine. It was a melodramatic kitsch-fest rivaled only by post-Rabin assassination de-rigueur mawkishness, which could at least superficially be construed as arising from genuine shock at the suddenness of the historical upset.”

“… Sharon, though recklessly obese, had reached – in relatively good health up until last month – the average life expectancy of an Israeli male. A medical crisis in his case could hardly have been a bolt from the blue. Indeed, if anything confounded logic it’s the apparent assumption that he’d carry on for another term or two.” read more

Startling AJC Poll …

Surprising Results Found in New AJC Poll

Excerpts:

Nearly 78 percent of respondents in a new poll commissioned by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) agreed with the statement, ‘The goal of the Arabs is not the return of occupied territories but rather the destruction of Israel.’

“However, 56% said they favor the establishment of a Palestinian state, while 36% said they supported a compromise in Jerusalem in the framework of a permanent peace agreement with the Palestinians.” read more

Excerpts:

“In the coming days Ariel Sharon is expected … to present what are ostensibly his plans for the future.”

“That’s ‘ostensibly’ because when he did this before the last elections and asked for the public’s support he then turned around and did virtually the exact opposite.” read more

Questions from Yamin Israel

“In addition to helping the thousands of Jewish refugees from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria, we have to ask some vital questions.

In view of the deplorable condition of these refuges the one hand, and Prime Minister Sharon’s responsibility for this inhuman state of affairs on the other, Yamin Israel asks:

Why no Knesset votes of no-confidence? Why no Knesset resolution calling for a National Commission of Inquiry? read more
