Gush Katif Refugees and Chanukah …

Gush Katif Evacuees Prepare for Hanukka in J’lem Hotels

Excerpt:

“‘We thought we would only be here for 10 days,’ Miriami said, ‘but that has turned into four months.’ The Naumburgs would like to move to as-yet unready temporary housing, but are not keen on leaving the Hyatt for another Jerusalem hotel.”

Anita Tucker to the US to Tell The True Facts About Gush Katif Refugees…

This Author received the following email last Thursday from Anita Tucker, formerly of Netzer Hazani, Gush Katif, now Islamic-Occupied Gaza.

Anita has told this author the following; “I know the Israeli consulate sends speakers to tell how well the disengagement went and how people of Gush have settled in their homes and jobs! So I guess I have a lot of work to get the truth out.”

The Plight of the Gush Katif Refugees — Still Relevant 3 plus Months Later …

A Time to Reach Out

Jonathan Rosenblum wrote this article mere days after the Expulsion began. The words seem still relevant for the Callous Indifference of the Israeli Gov’t and segments of Israel’s population regarding the Gush Katif and Shomron Refugees 3 plus Months Later. MB

Excerpts:

“In the long span of Jewish history, the uprooting of 8,500 Jews from Gaza will not rank as one of the worst tragedies, though it was unique in that those doing the uprooting were themselves Jews. This was not 1492 and the expulsion from Spain or the Holocaust. And the attempts by some in the settler community to appropriate symbols of those earlier tragedies – yellow Jewish stars, concentration camp uniforms – and by implication, and sometimes explicitly, to cast the soldiers executing the evacuation orders in the role of Hitler’s S.S. troops, only infuriated secular Israelis.” read more

Evacuees Interrupt Bassi’s Speech

Excerpts:

“Disengagement Administration Head Yonatan Bassi, who delivered a speech at the Sderot Conference for Society Wednesday, was continuously interrupted by Gush Katif evacuees who arrived to participate in a panel on the lessons of the disengagement.”

“Bassi stepped up onto the podium accompanied by a security guard, only after police reinforced the number of security guards in the hall.” read more

Author Miriam Adahan On The Gush Katif Expulsion and It’s Refugees …

With much thanks to and with permission from Miriam Adahan;

IMAGINE – THIS TIME 2006

By Miriam Adahan

It is March, 2006, seven months since the expulsion of some 10,000 Jews from Gush Katif. At that time, I wrote a piece called “Imagine,” decrying some of the tragic aspects of that terrible event. Now it is time for an update:

Imagine that 7 months ago, you lived among proud, hard-working people with zero unemployment, which brought in $2 billion a year, and that now you live in a world where 85% of your neighbors are unemployed – all to satisfy the government’s desire to please Arab terrorists. read more

For the Gush Katif Refugees, the Nightmare Doesn’t End …

Disengagement is Not Over: Nitzan is ’Ticking Social Time-Bomb’

Excerpts;

Nitzan, just north of Ashkelon, is the largest new temporary community of families that were uprooted from their homes in Gush Katif last summer in the framework of PM Ariel Sharon’s Disengagement Plan. Over 300 families currently reside there.

The session was held today as a result of calls by nationalist-camp MKs, in response to the harsh report issued last week by the State Comptroller regarding the Disengagement. “The State and its institutions failed in their treatment of the expelled citizens of Gush Katif,” the detailed report concluded. State Comptroller and former Judge Micha Lindenstrauss determined that the Sela (Aid for the Expellees) Administration, the Prime Minister’s Office, the State Service Commission and the Finance Ministry were all at fault. read more

Will the Gush Katif and Shomron Refugees be Denied Their Right to Vote?

Will the disengagement victims be disenfranchised?

Excerpt:

“Are the Disengagement victims being disenfranchised? How will they be able vote? Most do not have existing places of residence. There won’t be any polling booths in Gush Katif or Northern Samaria.”

This is a real interesting question. There are roughly 4,000 plus adult votes at stake. Many or most of the Refugees have not changed their Teudah Zehut (National Identity Card) to record their residence at their current venue due to the fluidity of their situation, i.e. residing in one place now, in a month they could be evicted from that location and shifted somewhere else, and have the situation repeated again and again. Such is the extent of the neglect and persecution of these people at the hands of the Sharon Regime and family. read more

More on the Gush Katif/Shomron Refugees …

Diaspora Jews Tour Evacuees’ Site

Excerpts:

“One of the tour’s organizers, Eve Harow of the “One Israel” fund, said that trips like the one held Thursday, during which American Jews are exposed to the evacuees’ suffering, help the foundation raise funds to benefit the former Gush Katif residents.

‘After the tour we were able to raise USD 10,000 in favor of the expelled settlers who live here in horrible conditions. This is the sixth group we have brought here since the eviction. Everyone is appalled by the hard conditions in which the Jews here live in, and they consequently open their hearts and their pockets,’ she said.” read more
