Olmert: Israel is Determined to Defeat Hizbullah

Israel has the stamina for a long fight and is determined to defeat Lebanese Hizbullah guerrillas, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told a group of new immigrants from France on Tuesday.

In a speech at Ben Gurion International Airport, Olmert told the new arrivals that “we are a strong people, and we have the stamina for a long struggle.”

“We will continue with this campaign to reach all our objectives and to defeat the enemies of the land of Israel and the people of Israel,” he said. read more

A Haifa resident under siege by Hizbullah attacks and who ignored opponents to the government’s expulsion of Gush Katif resident has written the expulsion victims and asked for forgiveness.

On the eve of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Jerusalem, senior officials believe Israel has an American nod to continue operations against Hezbollah at least until next Sunday.

Fatah: Hamas Ready to Accept Deal on Ceasefire, Release of Shalit

Senior Fatah sources in Gaza said on Saturday that Hamas is ready to accept a deal that involves freeing abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, a joint cease-fire and an end to IDF actions in the Gaza Strip.

What is not clear is whether Khaled Meshal, the Hamas leader in Damascus, will sanction the Egyptian-brokered deal.

The initiative, proposed by Egypt and discussed by Palestinian leaders in Gaza in the last few days, consists of freeing Gilad Shalit, a joint cease-fire and the cessation of the IDF’s assassinations in the Gaza Strip and freeing Palestinian prisoners later on. read more
