Gov’t Workers Promised Awards For Taking Part in Expulsion Still Waiting

Full Text;

Defense Ministry workers who were promised vacations and pay hikes in return for their voluntary participation in the expulsion of Jews from Gaza and northern Samaria last summer now complain that those commitments have gone unfulfilled.

Workers originally received emails promising awards for those who volunteered to man the perimeter and participate on other indirect support during the implementation of the Disengagement. Many volunteered and after the last community was destroyed, a large party was held for all the volunteers, who expressed willingness to take part in such operations in the future in exchange for similar promises. read more

This author has been going through a deep internal battle and deliberation as to who to vote for on Tuesday.

This internal battle has been regarding commitment to Likud via Moshe Feiglin vs first, the National Union, but more powerfully in recent days, between voting for Likud or voting Hazit.

Even given my deep level of commitment to Moshe and to Manhigut Yehudit and the Torah way which they stand for, and on account of what I am perceiving (B’Ezrat Hashem correctly) as an extremely well organized campaign where some 63,000 plus have verbally or in writing committed to Baruch and that Hazit “will have observers at all of the Kalpiot (voting stations) to make sure ballots are not thrown out “, I have just called the Hazit number and have committed my vote to Baruch Marzel. read more

Olmert thus hopes to play on the desires of Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu voters, and, to a lesser extent, those of the hareidi-religious United Judaism Party (UTJ), to see their parties in the government. read more

Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s latest pronouncement, made in an interview to a haredi newspaper over the weekend, that “whoever votes Kadima [forward in English] goes backwards to hell” can easily be explained away as yet another in a long series of ridiculous quotes from the sage’s wisdom.

What is interesting is that Yosef’s words seemed to contradict those of Shas Chairman MK Eli Yishai, who has been telling reporters over the last few days that the problem with a Kadima government was Ehud Olmert’s new pullback plan. read more

Mofaz: We will continue operating in the area under every possible situation. We are still operating in Gaza, though not on the ground. We need to reserve the right to operate in all senses of the word. Judea and Samaria is different from Gaza. We pulled the Army out of Gaza, since it was one dense urban area, and staying there would have been difficult. Judea and Samaria is different.
