To the Regime: Stop Apologizing for Israel’s Legitimate Right to Self-Defense

.

The cloaking of sanctions against Gaza, i.e. reduction in provision of Israeli power and other supplies, by Israel’s current regime as a continuation of “disengagement” is nothing less than apologetics for Israel’s legitimate, inalienable rights as a sovereign nation to defend itself and to secure it’s people and it’s sacred national land. Any sovereign nation, on its own land, has this inherent national entitlement.

Here are pertinent quotes from the Jerusalem Post opinion piece No Security, No Power which make this fundamental point; read more

The Rabin Assassination: 12 Years Later and in Perspective

.
Professor Steven Plaut writes about Maariv columnist Nadav Haetzni and his [Haetzni’s] recent piece wrote which seems to bring the Rabin assassination back from overblown leftist fervor and into some perspective;

Excerpts;

Nadav Haetzni is hands down the best columnist and commentator in the Israeli mainstream press. He writes in Maariv, the only Hebrew newspaper having a real semblance of political pluralism.

Unfortunately, Haetzni writes almost always only in Hebrew. He is a prominent lawyer and is the son of longtime activist Elyakim Haetzni. This past weekend Nadav has a superb article in Maariv. It is a bit long to be fully translated here, but let me give you the gist and sum it up for you. (Some of what follows is my own opinion – for Haetzni’s own text see Maariv October 26, although unfortunately it is not on their web site.) read more

Yitzchak Rabin’s Final Knesset Speech — Obscured on the Israel Foreign Ministry’s Memorial Website

.

Yitzchak Rabin’s final Knesset speech before the assassination was discussed in a recent Israel National News commentary piece penned by Hillel Fendel.

In the run-up to the 12th Yahrtzeit of Rabin’s murder, Fendel writes;

Left-wing spokesmen continue to refer to the widespread right-wing protests against Rabin’s policies prior to the murder as “incitement to violence.

Fendel then writes further down in the piece;

However, a speech Rabin delivered in the Knesset in October 1995, in which he opposed the formation of a Palestinian state – a stance he repeated on several occasions – was not released. In that speech, Rabin also spoke of his vision for a united Jerusalem: “These are some of the changes that we see and want in the final status agreement: First and foremost, a united Jerusalem, including Maaleh Adumim and Givat Ze’ev, as Israel’s capital… a security border for Israel’s protection in the Jordan Valley, in the broadest sense of this term… the inclusion of Gush Etzion, Efrat, Beitar [south of Jerusalem] and other communities.” read more

Parsha Chaye Sarah 5768: Avraham’s Attribute of Intuitive Perception, Will It Rub Off on Us?

.

by Moshe Burt

There are two intriguing commentaries, each relating to a different posuk of Parsha Chaye Sarah, regarding the dialogue leading up to Avraham Aveinu’s acquisition of the Ma’arat HaMachpela for 400 shekels of silver from Efron the Hittite.

The first of the two posukim is spoken by Avraham and says, in part, “I will have given the money for the field; take it of me …” (Breish’it, Perek 23, posuk 13)

“…That a man may marry a woman by using money to effect the marriage is deduced in the Talmud (Kiddushin 2) by drawing a parallel from this verse. But the parallel goes beyond merely the acquisition of the land of the Efronite and the acquisition of a wife. Just as in a marriage the act of acquisition is only the beginning and not the end, because that is when all one’s obligations begin — food, clothing, etc. — the same is true in our dealings with the Efronites. Nothing ends with written contracts and agreements. We pay, pay and pay again, and yet they keep demanding more from us.” (Torah Gems on Chaye Sarah, page 182 quoting Rabbi A.M. Amiel) read more

Electric and Utility Sanctions Against Gaza: Will Israel Embarrass Herself Before the Nations by Bowing to Pressure to Back Off?

.

Dr. Aaron Lerner of IMRA (Independent Media Research and Analysis) hits the nail on the head warning that Israeli sanctions are a lame substitute for doing what needs to be done — destroying, eradicating the PA terror army and their cache of weapons, explosives and ammunition from Egypt. This author expands on Lerner’s position — that if the PA terror army is to be destroyed, the cache of weapons eliminated must extend to that supplied by the US, the very weaponry which would have come into play had the alleged PA guards’ assassination plot on prime minister Olmert actually been attempted. read more
