This author has been fighting with himself for weeks as to how to break this news to the readership.
On the heels of the catastrophic expulsions of the past six months, when one looks around at what’s out there to vote for in the coming election; a bunch of gutless, meaningless right wing parties (including the governing party who’s central committee didn’t go stark, raving mad when Sharon disregarded the Likud referendum), each of them who sat glued to their seats at crucial points when any of them could have voted against the expulsion and brought about the end of the government.

Disengagement is Not Over: Nitzan is ’Ticking Social Time-Bomb’

Nitzan, just north of Ashkelon, is the largest new temporary community of families that were uprooted from their homes in Gush Katif last summer in the framework of PM Ariel Sharon’s Disengagement Plan. Over 300 families currently reside there.
The session was held today as a result of calls by nationalist-camp MKs, in response to the harsh report issued last week by the State Comptroller regarding the Disengagement. “The State and its institutions failed in their treatment of the expelled citizens of Gush Katif,” the detailed report concluded. State Comptroller and former Judge Micha Lindenstrauss determined that the Sela (Aid for the Expellees) Administration, the Prime Minister’s Office, the State Service Commission and the Finance Ministry were all at fault.
Legal Expert: Mofaz and Ezra Show Contempt for Knesset Committee

An expert in constitutional and administrative law from the University of Haifa, Emanuel Gross, said that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and Internal Security Minister Gidon Ezra have acted in contempt of the Knesset.
Gross said the ministers’ refusal to allow soldiers and police officers to testify before the Knesset committee investigating police violence at Amona was illegal and “in contempt of Israel’s democratic framework.”
Likud, Labor Spar Over Large Number of Undecided Voters

Although the two parties still officially have the premiership as a goal, on an unofficial level, both are using public relations in an effort to increase their strength in comparison to Kadima. The Labor Party is aiming for 24-25 Knesset seats, and senior party officials are now relaying the message that a strong Labor Party is needed in the government. Likud is reaching for 20 seats, with party chairman Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that the goal is to create a right-wing bloc large enough to keep Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert from forming a coalition.
Cabinet Takes a Step to Attract Arab Vote

In what Kadima opponents are calling a cynical move, the cabinet on Sunday morning decided to accept the recommendations of Acting Prime Minster Ehud Olmert, to encourage citizens of minority groups to join government ministries. The decision was directed at Arabs and former immigrants from Ethiopia.
The plan calls for a one-for-one arrangement by which the treasury will finance a Jewish worker for every Arab worker hired by ministries.
Ma’aleh Adumim Mayor Doubts Olmert

The mayor of Ma’aleh Adumim, Benny Kashriel, on Sunday cast doubt on a commitment Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made in newspaper interviews last week to construct a controversial building project between Jerusalem and Ma’aleh Adumim within the next four years.
“Out of experience, I am wary of believing pre-elections declarations,” Kashriel said…
Kashriel noted that before the last elections, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon made a similar pledge to build in the area, only to hold off on the plans during his time in office.
Indictment For Holding Referendum

Yekutiel Ben Yaakov, Director of the “Referendum For Israel” will be brought to trial on April 26 after being indicted on incitement charges for holding a referendum in which Israelis are given a choice to vote on which form of “disengagement” they prefer.
In the referendum voters are asked to vote “yes” or “no” on the following question:
Do you prefer more of the “Sharon/Peres Disengagement Plan” which includes transfering more Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria to “Palestinian” control, and expulsion of the Jews who live there – A move that would bring “Palestinian” territory closer to major Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv, Kfar Saba and Jerusalem.?
Atzmona Evacuees Receive Keys to Kibbutz Shomriya

A ceremony was held on Sunday evening at Kibbutz Shomriya in the Negev as the community’s veterans handed over their settlement to the Atzmona evacuees.
A total of 56 settler families that have been living in mobile homes near Netivot received the keys to their new homes, and are expected to move to the kibbutz in the coming days.
The kibbutz will become a religious settlement and will no longer be a part of the Kibbutz Artzi once the ex-Atzmona residents move in.
