Ya’alon: Israeli Elites, ‘Peace Now’ Harmful “Viruses”

Allies, or Will Ya’alon Fold?

Both the Jerusalem Post and Israel National News are reporting that Vice Premier and Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya’alon apparently spoke recently likening ‘Peace Now’ and Israeli elitists to “viruses” and expressing support for the positions of Moshe Feiglin and Manhigut Yehudit:

Speaking in a closed meeting organized by Feiglin for Manhigut Yehudit members this week, Ya’alon openly expressed his fears that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu might succumb to the Left. read more

Land of Israel Supporters Hope to Squash Judges’ Appointment

This blog posted previously about efforts by Land of Israel supporters to squash Appointment of 2 Judges, Sefi Elon and Uzi Fogelman, to Israel’s Supreme Court. The previous report focused on apparently pro-expulsion Judge Elon.

This post focuses primarily on Judge Fogelman and his alledged conflict of interest concerning Supreme Court President Judge Dorit Beinisch relating to Fogelman’s rejection of a petition filed by investigative reporter Yoav Yitzhak against Beinisch:

As Friday’s scheduled meeting of the Judicial Election Committee draws near, right-wing organizations and individuals are applying pressure to prevent the appointments of Beersheba District Court Judge Yosef “Sefi” Elon and Tel Aviv District Court Judge Uzi Fogelman… read more

Parsha Shoftim 5769: Israeli Governance: Justice in Judgement, or Subversion Thereof?

The third posuk of our Parsha reads;

“Tzedek, Tzedek tierdof…” Righteousness, righteousness (also rendered Justice, Justice) you shall pursue that you may live and inherit the land which the Lord, your G’d gives you.” (Sefer Devarim, Perek 16, posuk 20)

This posuk follows immediately after the opening of our Parsha in which Moshe Rabbeinu urges the B’nai Yisrael;

“Judges and officers shall you appoint in all of your cities — which Hashem …gives you — for your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgement. You shall not pervert judgement, you shall not respect persons, neither take a bribe, for a bribe binds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.” (Sefer Devarim, Perek 16, p’sukim 18-19) read more

Bibi: “No [More] Unilateral Expulsions”, But Pro-Expulsion Judge Up for High Court?

Commentary:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu recently promised not to repeat the “mistake” of 2005’s expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif and the 4 Shomron Towns. Israel National News reports:

Promising not to surrender communities in Judea and Samaria to the Palestinian Authority, the Prime Minister said there will be no unilateral expulsions.

But one must wonder, for a change, whether Netanyahu speaketh with forked tongue. For Israel National News also reports that his own Justice Minister Yaakov Ne’eman, head of the committee which selects Judges for the High Court, appears to be party to a “deal” to facilitate appointment of a leftist, pro-Expulsion judge to Israel’s Supreme Court: read more

Parsha R’ei 5769 — The Kindness of Chessed Toward One’s Fellow Jew

By, Moshe Burt

According to Rashi, Moshe Rabbeinu begins our Parsha R’ei by informing the B’nei Yisrael about the blessing and the curse to be pronounced to them upon their entry to Eretz Yisrael from Mount Gerizim and Mount Eval.

Moshe Rabbeinu continues his mussar saying:

“Behold, I set before you … a blessing and a curse; the blessing if you heed the commandments of Hashem, and the curse, if you will not observe his commandments.(Sefer Devarim, Perek 11, posukim 26-27)

Toward the end of the parsha, we are informed: read more
