Spin Doctors Spinning Barghouti Release

Report: Media Preparing Ground For Barghouti Release, by Ezra HaLevi (Israel National News)

“Although Israel’s media routinely refers to those convicted of rape as rapists (“The rapist Benny Sela escaped from police custody”) and murder as murderers (“The murderer Yigal Amir applied for the right to have a conjugal visit from his wife”), Barghouti is never referred to as a murderer on either Kol Israel government radio or Army Radio.”

Not at Any Price, by Shlomo Engel (Ynet)

“Against this backdrop of the sweeping Israeli willingness to finalize the Gilad Shalit deal at almost any price, despite its many dangers, it is difficult not to mention Jonathan Pollard.

Pollard is an Israeli soldier without a uniform, who Israel is not only failing to release but also knowingly ignoring.”

Israel must not pay exorbitant price in exchange for abducted soldier Shalit.

Soon, according to media reports, a deal for the release of abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit may be finalized. We can assume it will be a repeat of the Jibril deal, where Israel released 1,150 terrorists in exchange for three abducted troops. In that deal, all boundaries of proportionality in terms of prisoner swaps were breached. Sadly, the current deal, managed by the most failed government in the country’s history, is expected to be even worse. read more

Contrasting Jordanians and Israeli Druze

Say ‘Yes’ to Jordan and ‘No’ to Hamas, By Evelyn Gordon (Jerusalem Post)

“What makes Israel’s refusal truly absurd… is the foreign relations dimension of the case. Standard foreign policy goals usually include trying to make other countries into friends rather than enemies. But this requires demonstrating that friendship pays better dividends than enmity: If the reverse were true, any rational country would prefer enmity.” read more

What Happens When You Cave to Blackmail, By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook (Jerusalem Post)

Excerpts;

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his cabinet have found a unique way to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Id al-Adha, the “Festival of the Sacrifice,” that commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son. But instead of slaughtering lambs or goats, as millions of Muslims throughout the world will do starting Sunday, Israel’s leaders are prepared to sacrifice the lives of countless innocent Israelis. read more

Ron Ben-Yishai, Yediot Acharonot Military Correspondent: Take Over Gaza Now!

Analyst: Take Over Gaza Now!, by Hillel Fendel (Israel National News)

Full Text;

Veteran military correspondent Ron Ben-Yishai of Israel’s largest daily, Yediot Acharonot, explains why a massive military offensive in Gaza is Israel’s best alternative to fight the Kassams.

In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz, Ben-Yishai writes that the two political leaders “want us to believe that it is not our government and defense establishment that are to blame for the attacks on Sderot, but rather the anarchy in Gaza and the Hamas government. [They want us to think] that therefore all we have to do is to strengthen Abu Mazen and hope that he will finally come to a unity-government agreement with Hamas [which] will call a ceasefire, stop the arms-smuggling, and free Gilad Shalit in exchange for [hundreds of terrorist] prisoners…” read more

The True Price of a Deal …

The True Price of a Deal
From The Jerusalem Post — Editorial:

Excerpts;

At least part of Al-Hayat’s reporting on a purported deal taking shape for the release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, the newspaper now admits, was incorrect. Here’s hoping that much of the rest is off the mark, as well.

It’s not that Israel is anything but eager to see the 20-year-old soldier return home safely and swiftly. We all long to see Shalit reunited with his family, in fact. But it is difficult to see how the wildly asymmetrical deal Israel is reportedly considering, in which 800 Palestinian terrorists currently held in Israeli prisons would be released, is either morally tenable or wise. read more
