Gaza’s Jewish Refugees Today …

Photo Essay: Gaza’s Jewish Refugees Today

Excerpts;

“Since the forced removal of the Jews of Gaza from their homes over six months ago, the Jewish refugees have found themselves scattered across Israel. Arutz-7 offers a glimpse into their daily lives.”

“… It is often shown on television that everyone is OK and has gotten their lives back together, but it is simply untrue.”

“‘I very often say to people: ‘We have to put all our energies toward keeping our families and our lives together. People who are comfortable and sitting in lovely homes are the ones who have to go out and demonstrate for us. They still have energy left. We are focused on surviving and keeping our families together.'” read more

Olmert’s Plan to Abandon Jews of West Bank Based Upon Faulty Demographics, by Aaron Klein

Excerpts;

“If acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Kadima party wins next month’s elections, members of Israel’s Knesset will be asked to determine Israel’s “permanent borders” in a vote on West Bank withdrawal, Olmert said. Olmert justified his plan to vacate the West Bank, which borders most of Israel’s major cities, by claiming that unless Israel soon separates from the Palestinians, Arabs will outnumber Jews and threaten the country’s Jewish character. But recent studies indicate that Olmert is relying on faulty demographic information, and that Jews likely will outnumber Arabs by more than double in 20 years. read more

The 100 Minute Minyan …

This author remembers it well; It was the last Shabbos Ma’ariv before Erev Rosh Hoshanah, 5759 — 6 months before Aliyah.

Back in Philadelphia, in the Old Country, couple of us guys commented how this Tefillah was particularly significant and how it would be highly appropriate to daven that final Ma’ariv to end Shabbos with a special kavanah (concentration and understanding). But, unfortunately, the Tzibbur didn’t see it our way and so we had the usual “one, two, six” Ma’ariv. read more

Elections: Democratic Engagement vs Demonization and Brutalization …

Column One: ‘Strong Leadership for Peace’, Caroline Glick

Excerpts;

“This week, Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu took a vital step towards reinvigorating Israel’s democratic system. By forcing the Likud’s Central Committee members to transfer their power to select the party’s Knesset candidate slate to the rank and file membership of the party, Netanyahu brought about a change which optimally will make Likud Knesset members directly responsible to more than 100,000 voters rather than to 2,500 party officials. read more

The Evil Schemes Planned if Kadima Wins …

An Olmert Victory Will Mark More Expulsions

Dichter Reveals Olmert’s Major Expulsion Plan

Full Text;

“Former Shin Bet director, Avi Dichter, who is vying for a Kadima Party Knesset seat, over the weekend revealed Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s master expulsion plan.

“Speaking to a Holon audience, Dichter spoke of the Kadima leader’s plan, the removal of most of the Jewish communities throughout Judea and Samaria.

“According to Olmert, the plan provides for a number of major settlement blocs and a small number of secondary settlement blocs, but most of the existing communities will be uprooted and their residents ousted. Olmert feels that without a Palestinian Authority (PA) partner, he is compelled to act unilaterally, following the example of his predecessor, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.” read more

Havdalah: A Thought to Take Into the Week …

Don’t Leave It in the Beit Medrash

Over Shabbos, this author spotted a vort from Rabbi Artscroll in the Stone Chumash (Parsha Terumah, Perek 25, posukim 31-40, page 451 in Stone Chumash) which bears repeating;

“The Menorah, whose flames were fed by the purest oil of the olive, symbolized by the illumination of the intellect. It was placed near the southern wall of the Tabernacle (Mishkan), opposite the Table (Shulchan) on the north. The Ark (Aron HaKodesh) … was equidistant from both. … The Ark , containing the word of G’d, cast its spiritual emanations, as it were, upon the Menorah and the Table, which represented intellectual achievement and material prosperity. This symbolized the conviction that both our spiritual and temporal lives must be guided by, and work to serve, the dictates of the Torah. Jewish life cannot be compartmentalized in the realms of sacred and temporal, or in the modern vernacular, Church and State; the Torah regulates all aspects of life, and demands purity in all of them. Indeed, the requirement that the entire, very intricate Menorah had to be hammered out of one ingot of gold (posukim 31, 39) symbolized the indivisibilty of the Torah; a Jewish life must be constructed entirely from one set of values. It may not be a hodge-podge of separate bits and pieces, grafted together to suit anyone’s convenience. All areas of life must derive from the same set of values.” read more
