Parsha Ki Tisa — Peer Groups and Principle…
For many years, since 1991 when Parsha Ki Tisa marked my son Philip’s Bar Mitzvah, I have spoken of a posuk in our Parsha which alludes to an event which took place 40 year later, in a subsequent Parsha.
The posuk being referred to (Sh’mos, Perek 30, posuk 30)says that while Moshe Rabbeinu was on Har Sinai being given Torah, Hashem said, “You shall anoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them to minister (to serve) me.”

Perhaps Olmert’s hands have not yet been soiled by an Abbas handshake, but for sure Peres’ hands have been soiled and worse at the hands of both Abbas and Arafat. But it is easy to buy Barak’s reaction, namely regarding an Olmert “insurance policy” against Arab terrorists of any stripe taking terrorist actions which would “jeopardize” Olmert’s chances for election victory. This move shows that Israel can still act successfully, when leaders have a mind to. But would Olmert have acted on the release threat had the sequence of events not taken place two weeks before national elections? Frankly, this author harbors grave doubt that Olmert, Bibi, or for that matter Sharon would have acted were we not on top of elections. Were this not on the eve of elections, would we yet again be cast as the ineffectual “victims?”
