Same Old Tired, Worn-Out Israeli Government Act on Pollard …

Pollard Ad Campaign Provokes Govt. Response

Excerpts;

News media in Israel reported today that Minster of Interior Gideon Ezra challenged US Ambassador, Richard Jones, demanding to know why there has been no progress in the Pollard case when Soviet Spies caught in the US have been freed.

The Americans, sensing that this was a PR move to convince the public that Israel continues to work for Jonathan’s release and that the Americans are being intransigent, responded curtly.. read more

Peres Meets with Abbas in Secret

Check out what Barak of IRIS has to say by clicking here.

Commentary;

Perhaps Olmert’s hands have not yet been soiled by an Abbas handshake, but for sure Peres’ hands have been soiled and worse at the hands of both Abbas and Arafat. But it is easy to buy Barak’s reaction, namely regarding an Olmert “insurance policy” against Arab terrorists of any stripe taking terrorist actions which would “jeopardize” Olmert’s chances for election victory. Olmert: No Politics Involved in Timing

Commentary;

This move shows that Israel can still act successfully, when leaders have a mind to. But would Olmert have acted on the release threat had the sequence of events not taken place two weeks before national elections? Frankly, this author harbors grave doubt that Olmert, Bibi, or for that matter Sharon would have acted were we not on top of elections. Were this not on the eve of elections, would we yet again be cast as the ineffectual “victims?” read more

Is comparison #2 appropo?

Excerpts;

Ma’ariv – like every other newspaper in the country, led its Friday edition with its “exclusive” interview with Kadima leader and Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Although Olmert told Ma’ariv, as he told every other newspaper in the country, that he is planning to destroy many, many Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria if he becomes elected and surrender the vast majority of the areas, as well as a number of neighborhoods in Jerusalem, to the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, he did not once explain how doing so would advance Israel’s national interests or thwart the global campaign of jihad. read more

Ein Breira: After Gush Katif, Amona, Too Tired, the Fire Has Left …, or How One Can’t Bring Himself to Support Kadima, Even in a Purim Shpiel …*

This author has been fighting with himself for weeks as to how to break this news to the readership.

On the heels of the catastrophic expulsions of the past six months, when one looks around at what’s out there to vote for in the coming election; a bunch of gutless, meaningless right wing parties (including the governing party who’s central committee didn’t go stark, raving mad when Sharon disregarded the Likud referendum), each of them who sat glued to their seats at crucial points when any of them could have voted against the expulsion and brought about the end of the government. read more

For the Gush Katif Refugees, the Nightmare Doesn’t End …

Disengagement is Not Over: Nitzan is ’Ticking Social Time-Bomb’

Excerpts;

Nitzan, just north of Ashkelon, is the largest new temporary community of families that were uprooted from their homes in Gush Katif last summer in the framework of PM Ariel Sharon’s Disengagement Plan. Over 300 families currently reside there.

The session was held today as a result of calls by nationalist-camp MKs, in response to the harsh report issued last week by the State Comptroller regarding the Disengagement. “The State and its institutions failed in their treatment of the expelled citizens of Gush Katif,” the detailed report concluded. State Comptroller and former Judge Micha Lindenstrauss determined that the Sela (Aid for the Expellees) Administration, the Prime Minister’s Office, the State Service Commission and the Finance Ministry were all at fault. read more

Legal Expert: Mofaz and Ezra Show Contempt for Knesset Committee

Full Text;

An expert in constitutional and administrative law from the University of Haifa, Emanuel Gross, said that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and Internal Security Minister Gidon Ezra have acted in contempt of the Knesset.

Gross said the ministers’ refusal to allow soldiers and police officers to testify before the Knesset committee investigating police violence at Amona was illegal and “in contempt of Israel’s democratic framework.” read more
