Elon Moreh Yeshiva Head: Don’t Join the IDF

Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, head of the Elon Moreh Yeshiva, warned students not to join the army in order to avoid being forced to expel Jews from their homes in any further evacuation of Yesha communities.

According to a report in the Yediot Achronot daily it is the first time in Israel’s history that a Rabbi from that camp has specifically directed young Jewish men to evade the draft.

“If you think the IDF will force you to evict Jews from their homes or to go against your faith – don’t join the army,” he said. During last summer’s Disengagement from Gaza, Rabbi Levanon said he left the decision on how to act in the hands of students who were already serving in the IDF. read more

Gush Katif Expellees to Build Gush Lachish

A new Gush Katif – “Katif Bloc of Settlements” – is to arise in the Lachish area, east of the Be’er Sheva-Kiryat Gat area, west of Hevron. It will be built mainly by former residents of Gush Katif.

Five new communities are scheduled to be built along a north-south 15-kilometer range – though most of them are still very much in the planning stage. It could be anywhere from 2-4 years before all the permits and approvals are obtained and construction is completed. read more

If a doctor treated a breast cancer patient by amputating her big toe, he would doubtlessly be kicked out of medicine. Medical quackery is punished today. Sadly, the same cannot necessarily be said of public policy malpractice.

So the events of September 11 made the US realize that its policies toward the Arabs and the UN had to be changed because far from advancing US interests, their old policies harmed them. Unfortunately, the new policies which replaced the old failed policies were incapable of solving the US’s problems and so they too have failed. read more
