Red Tape [Undoubtedly Deliberate and Punitive] Keeps Gaza Evacuees From New Homes By Tovah Lazaroff (Jerusalem Post)
Commentary;
Based on the past year ‘s track record of compelled justification by virtue of presentation to the bureaucracy of decades of electric or phone bills, arbitrary and punitive compensation awards despite presentation of all papers and documents, attempts to compel the former Gush Katif residents to sign fraudulent documents in order to secure their ‘advances’, deliberate sequestion of the former Gush Katif residents from their belongings placed in moving containers and held ransom by the Regime, DNA testing to prove their children, etc., undoubtedly the former Gush Katif Residents are being subjected by the Regime to yet more deliberate, cruel, senseless and punitive red tape in their efforts to reestablish their lives. High Court of Justice to Olmert Regime: Show-Cause Why No State Commission…
High Court: Why No State Commission?
Commentary;
Will all of Olmert’s excuses for forming the Winograd Commission rather than submitting to an independent State Commission fly with the Supreme Court? MB
Excerpts;
The High Court of Justice on Thursday issued a show-cause order and gave the state six days to explain why it had appointed a government committee of examination into the second Lebanese war instead of a state commission of inquiry headed by a Supreme Court justice.
A panel of three judges headed by Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch ordered the state to explain what was the scope of the government committee’s powers to investigate a matter of “general national significance” and whether it was proper for the government to appoint a committee which would have to investigate those who appointed it.
Winograd Commission: Judges of, or Subordinate to, the Regime Initiating It?
A Commission on Probation By Ari Shavit (Haaretz)
“Judge Eliyahu Winograd, Yehezkel Dror, Haim Nagel, Menachem Einan and Ruth Gavison are now facing the most important moment of their public lives. Nothing that they have done in the past comes close in importance to what they are about to do now. No professional achievement that they might attain in the future will be able to atone for a crucial mistake made now.”
“History will not forgive the members of the Winograd Commission if, in this fateful autumn, they fail to rise above themselves, and instead fall asleep on their watch and betray their mission.”

Full Text;
The first group of former residents of Gush Katif have received plots of land to begin building permanent homes.
The group consists of 21 families of the destroyed communities of Elei Sinai and Nisanit which were located in the northern Gaza Strip.
The plots are located in the community of Bat Hadar, near the city of Ashkelon.
Commentary;
This blog prefaces this report with “if true” because we know how easy it is for the regime to deny, to go back on their solemn committments, etc. This author takes the approach; “I’ll believe it when I see it”, I’ll believe it when friends from the former Gush Katif invite me for a Shabbos to their new, permanent homes. Only then will this blog publish as fact. MB
Halutz Sacks General Ron-Tal for Having Courage to Speak Out…
Halutz Orders Snap Retirement of ‘Rebellious General’, Hanan Greenberg (Ynet)
Commentary;
As reported yesterday on this blog, it seems that General Ron-Tal is the first senior officer to do the right thing — to have spoken out against the expulsion, against the military’s failures in Lebanon, to have called for Halutz’s resignation and to have preemptively resigned prior to being discharged. Ron-Tal loses various retirement funds, benefits and perks which, under threat of loss, serves to keep other senior officers “in line.”
