There will be a special Knesset session at 4:00pm in memory of Tourism Minister Rechavam Ze’evi on the 5th anniversary of his assassination by PFLP terrorists in Jerusalem’s Hyatt Hotel.

Ze’evi was hit by a number of bullets, with one striking him in the head and a second in the neck. The minister died of his massive wounds at 10:00am. At 10:10am, Hadassah Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Shmuel Shapiro announced that life-saving efforts had failed.

Commentary;

This author only met Ghandi (the nickname referring to Rechavam Ze’evi) once. And that was as part of a small group participating in a vigil at the Moledet offices on a night when Moledet officials met to discuss leaving Sharon’s government over the failure of the government to capture the hills of Chevron where Arab snipers shot little Shalhevet Pass as she played in a small play area.

10 Days to 2 weeks later, Ze’evi, who was Tourism Minister at the time, and Benny Elon resigned their cabinet positions in Sharon’s 1st goverment. Any cabinet resignation goes into effect 48 hours after it’s tendered in order that the resignee has the option to change his mind.

Ghandi was assassinated during that 48 hour period. Elon quickly reconsidered, reversed his resignation and again took up his cabinet post. To this day, this author wonders if the timing of the resignation and his assassination by PFLP terrorists was mere coincidence or whether something more sinister occurred. MB
