When PM Olmert, DM Peretz and COS Halutz snap back at their critics that the IDF is already doing everything it can to stop the Qassams from the Gaza Strip, there are some huge caveats attached to the claim.
– The IDF’s mission includes destroying weapons stores, but if the weapons are stored in a residential area the IDF gives the Palestinians thirty minutes warning before attacking the location to either relocate the weapons or bring in even more human shields to protect it from attack.

IAF sources are worried that, pursuant to Hizbullah success to take down an Israel helicopter in Lebanon, terror organizations in the Strip will try to arm themselves with anti-aircraft weaponry.
“The threats of antitank and anti-aircraft missiles in Gaza are increasing and we are preparing for that,” said the officer.

The Knesset Finance Committee today refused a request by the Finance Ministry to approve a 1.5 billion shekel reallocation of funds for defense expenses related to Israel’s recent war in Lebanon. The committee members conditioned the reallocation, which would transfer funds from other government ministries to the defense establishment, upon the Finance Ministry earmarking 100 million shekels for the reinforcement of school buildings in Sderot against rocket attacks. Committee chairman Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) voiced the MKs concerns.

We would all like to think that under the circumstances, the common-sense thing for any self-respecting sovereignty to do is to go in and invade. But, as written previously on this blog, a full invasion and the Retaking of Gaza will show the naked cruelty of the expulsion of the Jews from Gush Katif for all to see. Olmert knows this and knows that it constitutes admission of his own moral bankruptcy and the bankruptcy and moral corruption of “convergence.” In addition, his unbound, unbrided ego trumps Israel’s defense and security. Therefore, this author views a full invasion of and retaking of Gaza as highly unlikely as Olmert will NEVER do what is best for the nation’s security; instead, he will continue abrogating his solemn governmental responsibilities in the name of ego and blind hate for anything Jewish.
