Israel Has ‘No Answer’ to Al Jazeera

Wednesday’s launch of Qatar-based Al Jazeera International, a 24/7 English-language satellite network, will make the “information war” harder for Israel, according to Haifa University communications expert Prof. Gabriel Weimann.
“There will be a global channel in English that tends to be more pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli than the others, and it will not be preaching to the converted,” he said. “It will not be trying to win over the Jewish community in the US or Europe. It will be speaking to a neutral audience, to the uncommitted, the uninvolved, the uninformed. Israel doesn’t have an answer to it.”

There are two intriguing commentaries, each relating to a different posuk of Parsha Chaye Sarah, regarding the dialogue leading up to Avraham Aveinu’s acquistion of the Ma’arat HaMachpela for 400 shekels of silver from Efron the Hittite.
The first of the two posukim is spoken by Avraham and says, in part, “I will have given the money for the field; take it of me …” (Breish’it, Perek 23, posuk 13)
Moshe Arens: Failure in Lebanon Worse than Yom Kippur War

Former Defense Minister Prof. Moshe Arens told Voice of Israel government radio Monday morning that the IDF’s failures in the Hizbullah terrorist war this summer were worse than those in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Golda Meir, who was Prime Minister during the war, resigned because of the lack of defense against the Egyptian attack.
Prof. Arens, who served in the Cabinet during the Gulf war in 1991, called on IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz and Defense Minister Amir Peretz to resign following an IDF inquiry report that pointed out miscalculations and mistakes which allowed Hizbullah terrorists to kidnap two IDF soldiers on July 12, at the outset of the war. “Those who initiated and managed the war, Peretz and Halutz, carry the responsibility and are the first who have to leave their posts,” he said.
