Chanukah: Jewish Law Must NOT Break

Hanukka and the Limits of Pluralism, By Stewart Weiss (Jerusalem Post)

“We cannot tolerate those who would change the basic rules of the game.”

“Thus observing the Sabbath on Sunday, believing in Jesus or redefining ‘Who is a Jew’ evoke a call to arms by those who sincerely care about the future of Judaism. And it is in this context that we have to address issues like same-sex marriage or gay and lesbian ‘rabbis.’ While Jewish law has always been willing to bend, it is not prepared to break.” read more

Olmert Gov’t Falls for Ahmadinejad Strategy: Deny Holocaust, Praise Perpetrators

Column One: Why deny the Holocaust? By Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post)

“Were Israel to base its diplomatic, military, informational and economic policies on a single-minded commitment to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear capabilities, it would succeed. Unfortunately, under the Olmert government Israel is doing nothing of the kind on any level.”

“Imagine what the impact would have been if Olmert had rejoined, ‘Excuse me, but it is quite possible that at the end of the day a military strike against Iran will be the only way to prevent Iran from acquiring atomic bombs and so committing another Holocaust. Given this, your blanket opposition to the notion of military strikes constitutes Germany’s effective acceptance of another Holocaust. Shame on you, Angie. Shame on Germany.'” read more

UPS: Discriminatory Delivery Policies Against Yehudah, Shomron, Golan? Politically Motivated?

UPS Issues Explanation on Service to Judea and Samaria

Full Text;

United Parcel Service (UPS) has claimed that information that it refuses to deliver to Jews in Judea and Samaria is not correct. In a letter to Dr. Alan Lerner of the Independent Media Review and Analysis (IMRA), UPS executive Ilan Nagar said that the company provides service to all Israelis except for “remote areas…where it would be cost prohibitive to provide service.”

He pointed out that residents of Gush Etzion do not have to travel to Jerusalem to pick up packages sent via UPS. However, Nagar also wrote, “UPS’s service reaches over 80% of the population and covers approximately 60% of the territory.” The policy leaves 20 per cent of the population without service. One resident in a community in the southern Hevron Hills, less than 25 minutes from Arad, said he was told by UPS he had to go Be’er Sheva to pick up a package. read more

The West’s Choice (Jerusalem Post Editorial)

“Israel must make it clear that the West’s choice is not between confronting or tolerating a nuclear Iran, but between taking collective action and forcing Israel to act alone.”

Excerpts;

The flap over Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s seemingly inadvertent breach of Israel’s policy of nuclear ambiguity is certainly embarrassing, but does not really change anything. Since such policies should not be changed by a slip of the tongue, Olmert was wise to quickly correct himself and reiterate the familiar formula that Israel will “not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons into the region.” read more
