American Jews: Are You Okay With Where Your Federation Donations are Going?

Not With My Money, by Lori Lowenthal Marcus (Jerusalem Post)

“Three of the principal goals of JAFI are to develop Jewish communities in the Galilee and the Negev, encourage aliya, and promote Jewish continuity… All three of those goals, however, would be considered illegitimate colonizing enterprises by at least one of JAFI’s grantees – the Mossawa Center, an Arab-Israeli thank tank. Mossawa seems committed to eliminating every one of them.”

“It is time for Jewish donors who wish Israel to remain a Jewish state – and there is nothing inconsistent with it being a Jewish state and a democracy – to scrutinize the actions of their investment professionals.” read more

Jews Wake Up: “We’re Losing Our Lands!”

Abandoning Land to Arabs: First Stage of Next Withdrawal?, by Hillel Fendel (Israel national News)

Farm owner Yaakov Talia: “Even the Civil Administration admits that the Arabs can’t sufficiently prove it’s theirs – but the army gave it to them anyway. There is also other land nearby that is 100% mine – I have contracts with the State and the Settlement Department – and the Arabs and leftists came [today] into both these areas! They uprooted the zaatar and other protected bushes, and also the grains that I planted…” read more

Command Arrogance Cost Israel Dearly in Lebanon Clash

Commentary;

Indecisiveness, indecision, lack of training, incompetence at the command and political levels as well as shortages of military necessities were not all that cost Israel severely during last summer’s Lebanon debacle.

It is now revealed General Dan Halutz, as then commander of the Israel Air Force halted development of a weapon system and “rejected a US offer in 2002 to sell Israel ‘bunker buster’ bombs capable of penetrating underground Hezbollah bunkers.” Both of these systems could have been used to Israel’s great advantage against Hezbollah during last summer’s Lebanon hostilities. read more

The Mattot Arim, PSI, WIG Joint Statement: American Jewish Responses

On Sunday, this author posted The Mattot Arim, PSI, WIG Joint Statement calling for Jews in Chutz L’Aretz (Diaspora) to Lobby against the creation of a terror state in Yehuda and the Shomron.

This piece was posted with some trepidation, with pictures of our Israeli Dumber and Dumber… as well as with this author’s personal caveat.

The trepidation was based on anticipation and expectations as to how some would respond from thousands of miles away, as they sit snug and smug in what they perceive as their own safe, secure property in the US, not believing for an instant that they, like the Jews of Europe of the late 1930s and 1940s, could someday be delegitimized and dehumanized. read more

Tossing Around Hot Potatoes

Commentary:

The blame game begins or continues between regime officials, each as evil as the other — including “Mean Me’ir.” The bottom line: for all of the blame and hot potatoes being tossed around, former Gush Katif residents continue to be without permanent resettlement, and the housing shortage in Yehuda and Shomron continues. Parsha Mishpatim 5767 — The Importance of Honesty, Principle and Unity Among Jewish Brethren

by, Moshe Burt

Parsha Yithro concludes with the high moment to date in world history; The Asseret HaDibrot (The 10 Statements) on the 6th day of the month of Sivan.

In our parsha Mishpatim, many basic laws of civilized existence are enunciated for B’nai Yisrael. The purpose of the Mishpatim, the civil laws, are to protect the moral fiber of society by regulating relationships between men, ecouraging truthfulness, sincerity and kindness while condemning immorality and deceit.

I often think of discussions back in the “old country” with friends where the suggestion is made that the Arabs, the Islamics view the Jews as hypocrites who are totally lacking in principles. What is suggested is that the Arabs view and perceive an Israeli derech of total lack of modesty (tz’niyut), rampant promiscuity, the presence of irreverence as well as a lack of ethics and morality in dealings between Jews themselves. And before the world, we gain discredit by scandals such as those of Haim Ramon and Moshe Katzav as well as by Ehud Olmert’s alleged less than straight and above-board property deals. read more

Supreme Court to Rule on Migron: Impact on Olmert, Peretz Planned Dismantlements?

Supreme Court Rules on Fate of 43 Families in Heart of Israel, by Hillel Fendel (Israel National News)

“We are a continuation of the Zionist enterprise and the Zionist dream – just like all the pioneers who came to the Land of Israel over the centuries, starting with the students of the Gaon of Vilna [early 19th century], and later the First Aliyah [1882-1903], and the Second Aliyah [1904 – 1914], etc. – there is no difference. If anything, we are more in the heart of the Land of Israel than Tel Aviv is.” read more
