“The citizens of the State of Israel must also take to the streets. The government that led us to defeat in Lebanon this summer is leading us to a disaster of another order entirely. All citizens must demand that Olmert, his ministers and the generals in the IDF General Staff make an immediate decision. They now hold the responsibility for acting against Iran. They must either act or resign and make way for others who will.” read more

Olmert on Kidnapped Soldiers: Better for the Two to Remain Captive Than for Other Soldiers to Die

PM’s Remarks Anger Soldiers’ Families

Full Text;

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert should talk less and do more to secure the release of kidnapped IDF reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, Goldwasser’s mother, Miki, told Army Radio on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, Olmert told a group of high school students that Israel had pulled out of this summer’s Lebanon war despite the fact that Goldwasser and Regev had not been rescued in order to save other soldiers’ lives.

If Goldwasser and Regev were still alive, Olmert said, it was better for them to remain captive “a little while longer” than for other soldiers to die in an attempt to rescue them. read more

Extraction and Eradication of Post-Zionism and Elitism: Key to Restoration of Founding National Values…

What to Do About Tel Aviv, By Isi Leibler (Jerusalem Post)

Excerpts;

We are already immersed in painful evaluations to identify the cause of the breakdowns in our decision-making processes and in rectifying the weaknesses in the IDF as a consequence of the recent war.

What went wrong?

The problem goes far beyond the failings of individual leaders. Nor, as is frequently alleged, is the primary source the pain and agony endured by successive generations of Israelis witnessing their children leaving for the battlefields to risk their lives in defense of the nation. read more

Who Ordered the Cuts to the Religious Services Budget?

Full Text;

At a meeting today of the Knesset Finance Committee, committee chairman Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) challenged a representative of the ministry of finance to explain what he said was a disparate cut in funding for yeshivas and municipal religious councils. According to Litzman, the cuts in religious services and yeshiva education (15%) are proportionally greater than the across-the-board cuts to all other ministerial budgets. Officially the proposed across-the-board cuts are to average 6 percent. read more

Back to the Past: Jews Running Scared from S’derot Like Generations in Chutz L’Aretz? Is S’derot, the Negev on Olmert’s Chopping Block?

Commentary #1

These stories may not seem related, but just maybe they are. Something to think about? Could this be what when former NSC Chairman Major General Giora Eiland had in mind in suggesting to ” … Compensate Egypt with 150 square kilometers in the southern Negev …”?

Get The Kids Out of Sderot

Excerpt;

I’m sure the Education Ministry, together with a bit of the volunteering spirit that has yet to completely disappear from Israeli society, could help organize a much calmer summer for hundreds of kids than the one they are expecting. The “message” of such a plan would not be to flex our national muscles. Rather, it would show simple, human and obvious concern for the welfare of children who see through the lies that “we are doing our best” as they continue to shake with fear. read more

Education Minister Yuli Tamir met with religious Zionist rabbis on Wednesday, asking them to help in the design of an educational program that would teach students of the process and effects of the 2005 disengagement from the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria.

Former Interim Education Minister, Meir Sheetrit: “This Country Belongs to Two Peoples.”

“The rudeness and arrogance demonstrated by the interim education minister appears to have been driven by a deeper motivation.”

The Quiz and the Education Minister

Excerpts;

One of the most distinctive events of Independence Day is the International Bible Quiz for Jewish youth held every year in Jerusalem. I am moved each time to watch the splendid representatives of so many Diaspora communities, and Israel, demonstrating their impressive knowledge of the Holy Scriptures.

At this event, the Bible – the glue that holds all Jews together – unifies the younger generation from all over the world who come to Israel’s capital to display their mastery of our nation’s formative text. read more
