Parsha Shelach 5773: Distorted Modern-Day Shelach, and the Divine Incumbency Behind Our Dwelling in Eretz Yisrael

by Moshe Burt

Our Parsha Shelach brings to mind the evolution of today’s Israeli political, governmental scene. Continued governmental tolerance of Arab attacks upon Jews — near the Kotel and throughout Yehuda and the Shomron, of prohibition of Jews, even MKs, from praying at Har HaBayit (The Temple Mount), of alleged police framing of Jews regarding alleged violence and damage in so-called “Arab areas” all show clearly that the politicians still have not learned and internalized the lessons which should have been gleaned after Jew expelled Jew from Gush Katif. read more

A Kohen’s Take: The Likud Central Committee Vote and Jerusalem

Commentary:

As this week’s Parshat HaShevua is Parsha Emor, it seems appropriate apply precepts which I have derived from our Parsha to our collective current malaise:

The function of the Kohen in relationship to his fellow Jews is meant to be the paradigm of how the Jews are meant to relate to the nations as a light unto the world. The point is that the Kohanim are meant to be a paradigm, to set an example for all of B’nai Yisrael regarding derech, midos, chessed to one’s brothers — one’s fellow Jews, and of Avodat Hashem. read more

Supreme Court Appointments: Elon Nixed, Religious Anglo Appointed With 2 Others

Commentary:

This blog recently posted 2 pieces [here and here] relating to efforts to mobilize a grassroots effort to insure that 3 Nationalist MKs on the Court Judges appointment committee didn’t vote to appoint more leftist judges.

Apparently, the mobilization met with some success as the committee repelled Judge Sefi Elon’s nomination while appointing Supreme Court President Judge Dorit Beinisch’s hand-picked candidate Uzi Fogelman.

The right-wing members of the committee approved of Fogelman in exchange for appointments of Judges Yitzchak Amit and Neal Hendel who is American-born, Yeshiva educated and who made Aliyah in 1983 receiving his Israeli law license in 1984. (MB) read more

Land of Israel Supporters Hope to Squash Judges’ Appointment

This blog posted previously about efforts by Land of Israel supporters to squash Appointment of 2 Judges, Sefi Elon and Uzi Fogelman, to Israel’s Supreme Court. The previous report focused on apparently pro-expulsion Judge Elon.

This post focuses primarily on Judge Fogelman and his alledged conflict of interest concerning Supreme Court President Judge Dorit Beinisch relating to Fogelman’s rejection of a petition filed by investigative reporter Yoav Yitzhak against Beinisch:

As Friday’s scheduled meeting of the Judicial Election Committee draws near, right-wing organizations and individuals are applying pressure to prevent the appointments of Beersheba District Court Judge Yosef “Sefi” Elon and Tel Aviv District Court Judge Uzi Fogelman… read more

Ehud Barak Planning Imminent Demolition of Gush Etzion Home of IDF Commando??

Received this email from Mattot Arim today and am urging everyone reading this to contact Shas Minister Eli Yishai and Shas Chavrei Knesset to nix Ehud Barak’s apparent attempt in the coming days to demolish this home in Gush Etzion:

From: mattot.arim@gmail.com :

URGENT: The home of a reserve commando officer who has risked his life for all of us many times, his pregnant wife and their baby daughter Shaked may be destroyed tomorrow, the next day or Wednesday –in Gush Etzion — because the Labor Party Convention is convening Wednesday. It is customary for the head of the party (currently Ehud Barak) to decimate an outpost a day or two before this periodic political event, because some of the Labor Party’s functionaries are radical leftwingers who truly delight in settler-bashing. read more

Temporary Construction Freeze: Setting Precedent for Yesha Expulsion?

.
The IRIS blog did a piece on Monday treating comments of Arab-American Joseph Farah in his World News Daily where he refers to the Obama administration’s so-called “balanced policy” towards Israel as inherently racist, and that it aims for ethnic cleansing of Jews from the historical Jewish homeland.

According to an Israeli daily Haaretz report, this is the atmosphhere and mindset into which defense minister Ehud Barak has walked in negotiating for a so-called “temporary construction freeze”. over the opposition of 3 of the 6 ministers of the “forum of six” ministers regarding construction in Yehuda and the Shomron: read more

MK Danon: Boycott July 4 Celebration

.
The Jerusalem Post reports that Likud MK Danny Danon is calling for a boycott of the July 4 celebration at US Ambassador James Cunningham’s home and that a number of other Likud members have already approached telling him that they wouldn’t be attending:

The annual reception, held at the ambassador’s Herzliya Pituah residence, was described by at least one lawmaker as “a see-and-be-seen event,” to which politicians usually flock.

But this year, said MK Danny Danon who wrote the letter calling on other legislators to stay away from the gathering, “the majority of coalition members will not attend.” read more

Election Results UPDATE: Kadima Clings to 1 Seat Lead; Do IDF Votes Hold Victory Margin?

.
Commentary:

With over 99% of the vote counted on Wednesday, Kadima still clings to a slender 1 Knesset seat lead over the Likud as the real results seem to closely relate to the exit poll data .

The nearly completed actual results showed that the Arab parties gained 1 seat to total 11 while the Left dropped 16 seats vs their position in the current Knesset while the Right picked up 19 seats and the Religious parties dropped by 4 seats vs the current Knesset. Israel National News reports that the soldiers vote could affect which party garners the most Knesset seats: read more
