“Convergence Debate (sic)” Inside Kadima?

Commentary #1;

Here we have the “great debate” inside Kadima about the validity of realignment in view of the Gaza situation as Justice Minister Haim Ramon and Housing Minister Meir Sheetrit go pro and con on the issue.

Aaron Lerner of IMRA once again makes an eminently valid point;

It should be noted that when retreat proponents make the argument that thanks to the retreat from Gaza that the IDF is able to act without foreign pressure – this while they know full well that the IDF has been barred from launching a truly effective campaign out of fear of foreign pressure – that they are genuinely making the claim. read more

Feigned Indignance?

Excerpt;

Prime Minister Olmert told the cabinet Sunday: “We and the international community know that Gilad [Shalit] is being held by a bloodthirsty gang of terrorists who are causing us much suffering but who are mainly hurting the Palestinian population, which is bearing the results of this terrorist activity….I have instructed the security establishment and the IDF to increase the strength of their actions in order to pursue these terrorists, those who dispatch them, their ideologues, and those who sponsor them. OJT for Amir …

The Indefensible Defense Minister

Excerpts;

These passages from a Jewish Telegraphic Agency story carried by Philadelphia’s Jewish Exponent lay out much of what even the most able defense minister is up against: “How to deal with Palestinian terrorism under a radical, Hamas-led Palestinian Authority that refuses to condemn attacks; how to prepare for the challenge posed by Iran’s nuclear program, which is led by a regime that talks about wiping Israel off the map; how to accelerate completion of Israel’s West Bank security fence, delayed in part by bureaucratic bottlenecks in the Defense Ministry itself; and how to facilitate a major West Bank evacuation with minimal friction between the army and evacuated settlers.” read more
