Parshiyot Tazria/Metzora5767: Ta’amei and Tahara in National Terms

by Moshe Burt

In learning about the laws of tzara’as, we find posukim which are a pelah, a wonderment.

Torah relates in our Parsha; “If the tzara’as will erupt on the skin, and … will cover the entire skin of the afflicted from his head to his feet, wherever the eyes of the Kohen can see — the Kohen shall look, and behold! — the affliction has covered his entire flesh, then he shall declare the affliction to be pure; having turned completely white, it is pure. On the day healthy skin appears …, it (the affliction) shall be contaminated.” (Sefer Vayikra, Perek 13, posukim 12 – 14) read more

Homesh: In Retrospect

Commentary;

After last week’s re-entry into Homesh, this author, with the help of various media coverage during and after the fact, tries to set the 2 1/2 day Homesh event in perspective.

The left and some of the media tried to present this event as an arrogant power-grab on behalf of Orange activism. In doing so, they’ve pushed all of the wrong buttons.

But are enough Jews wise and savvy enough to discern psychological projection when they see it?

Case in point, this blog picked up, Welcome to Settler Nation. Now, Obey!, by Bradley Burston of Haaretz under the headline;
Homesh… and Leftist Hate Journalism from H-ll! read more

Israeli Hypocrisy and Lack of Torah Morality: Fuel Driving Anti-Semitism?

Former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau spoke about anti-Semitism before the recent Jerusalem Conference. He cited the saying of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Gemora with a question and with his observations;

“A law: It is known that Esau hates Jacob” – and asked, “Why the unusual phraseology? What type of law can this be? It sounds very fatalistic, as if nothing can change it.” Rabbi Lau then explained, in the name of some commentators, that the phenomenon of anti-Semitism described by Rabbi Shimon is “akin to a law taught to Moses at Sinai, which also uses this word ‘law.’ It is something that has no explanation and is not in dispute, such as the fact that tefillin must be black and square. It is the same with anti-Semitism: you can look for reasons for it, but in the end, it’s just an axiom. This hatred is a given, permanent phenomenon.” read more

Parshiyot Vayakhel/Pekudei: Paradigm Leadership, Accountability and Transparency = Unity of Klal Israel

by Moshe Burt

The terms leadership, accountability and transparency have been bandied about often since last summer’s snafu in Lebanon and over these past months with the host of open files on both the state attorney general’s and state comptroller’s desk.

Our Parsha Vayakhel is dedicated to teaching B’nai Yisrael about Shabbat which has always, until recent times, been the unifying, defining factor of Judaism. It alludes to all else — Yishuv HaAretz, Kiddushin, etc. It symbolizes the Jew’s faith in Hashem. The parsha begins by stating that “Moshe assembled the entire congregation of B’nai Yisrael…” (Perek 35, Posuk 1) However, Torah’s loshen (language) “Adat B’nai Yisrael”, in the context of learning the laws of Shabbos as related to the construction of the Mishkan seems to indicate a unity, as one, amongst the Assembly of the B’nai Yisrael. read more

Israeli Apartheid: “Relates to Where People [Jews] Live and what They Believe.”

Happy Apartheid Week, by David Wilder (Israel National News)

For context, read this related post.

“In all actuality, they* don’t give a damn about the 10,000 Jews expelled from Gush Katif and northern Samaria. Their plea has nothing to do with humanity. The reason behind their unusual demand is totally political… As published in Haaretz newspaper, ‘the current neglect of the evacuees from Gush Katif [Gaza’s main settlement bloc] is likely to erode the state’s legitimacy should it decide to carry out a similar process in the future.'” read more

Education Ministry: 59 Years of Leftist, Elitist Brainwashing of Israel’s Secular “Golden Youth”

Batya of Shilomuse posted a piece on Friday entitled; National Masochism about what systematic, institutional brainwashing
of generations of Israel’s Secular “Golden Youth” has wrought.

The results of this nurtured and inculcated brainwashing have manifested themselves at all levels from politians, soo lacking in any valid connection to their Jewish roots and thus, soo lacking in any kind of national or personal pride that they now consider Jerusalem as “marginal” to according their leftist, systematically inculcated vision of true Israel, to the youth of today and how “most Israelis only know Judea and Samaria and even our capital, Jerusalem, from army service.” read more

On the Precipice of a New War

Column One: As We Bumble Into War, by Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post)

“Defense Minister Amir Peretz is preparing to renew his hostilities against his greatest foes – the Israelis who live in Judea and Samaria. As to the Palestinians, Hezbollah and their state sponsors, Peretz has nothing constructive to say.”

“As is her practice, Livni ignored the fact that her ‘moderate’ friend Abbas stands at the center of those “extremists” inciting for war.” read more

Caroline Glick: “If We Want to Win, We Need to Fight.”

Making the Case Against Genocide, by Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post)

“Esteemed friends of Israel, such as Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz and former Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler, could get no information from the Foreign Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Defense Ministry or the IDF’s Spokesman’s Unit. No one could be bothered to talk to them. No one had time to help them help Israel.”

Excerpts;

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an evil man. But he is not a stupid man. Indeed, he is smart and fastidious. He understands power and how to get it. And he understands that the purpose of a nation’s foreign policy is to sell ideas and messages and to build coalitions that enable a state to achieve its national aims. Due to his understanding and his abilities, Ahmadinejad has achieved significant success in advancing his policy aims of defeating the United States, destroying the State of Israel, and acquiring nuclear weapons. read more
