“Did We Receive the Leaders We Deserve?

The Lessons of Lebanon, By Lenny Ben-David (Jerusalem Post)

Excerpts;

The war did not go well. It’s easy to point to Hizbullah’s six years of preparations, its fanatic devotion to death, and an endless supply of technologically advanced Iranian and Syrian weapons. But the analysis of what went wrong must first be focused on ourselves.

Five of my sons and sons-in-law fought in this war. Now coming out of Lebanon and surviving some of the bloodiest fighting, they are filled with anger. Their short-term and long-term orders were confused and ever-changing. The emergency stocks for their reserve units were in horrible condition. One reservist special forces unit lacked basic communications equipment, they were provided guns that they had never trained on, and their rushed training was done in conditions unlike anything they would see in Lebanon. read more

Gaza Operations: For Naught for Lack of Will to Win?

.
Commentary:

The two editorials beneath say it all about the lack of will to win and lack of clearly defined objectives, goals and day-after plans by a corrupt political governance across the board which won’t let the IDF win — including Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu, etc. .

In this context, Moshe Feiglin has written and spoken repeatedly;

If Israel cannot define a real goal for this war, it cannot win. All the IDF’s professionalism and the arduous training with which the new Chief of Staff has equipped the army are ineffective if Israel’s leaders cannot define the goal of the fighting. He who cannot define the goal cannot win. And if you can’t win – it is best not to start fighting. And if you have started fighting nevertheless, you quickly find yourself entrenched in the heart of Gaza in the worst of all positions: You can’t win; if you retreat you admit another defeat and a stalemate turns your soldiers into easy targets for kidnappers, suicide bombers and hate-filled murderers. read more

Beware of Uzi Dayan; Remember Rabin on Golan Heights

.

Commentary;

Before getting all excited about Uzi Dayan, the suddenly turned hawk who just joined Likud, one would do well to take a history lesson from Mordechai Ben-Menachem’s citing of Yitzchak Rabin’s 1992 prime ministerial campaign pronouncement and by reading the link text in it’s totality;

When Yitzhak Rabin ran for election as Israel’s Prime Minister in 1992, he publicly declared at a giant election rally just two weeks before the election, “Whosoever gives up the Golan Heights, abandons the security of the State of Israel.” read more

Assad’s “Trustworthiness” Notwithstanding; Golan = Eretz Yisrael

.
Commentary;

Derch HaTeva (On an earthly level, In earthly terms or understanding) Dr. Aaron Lerner of IMRA emphasizes former head of Israel’s National Security Council Gen. (ret) Giora Eiland points regarding the dependability of Syrian president Bashar Assad’s word and the stability of his regime regarding negotiations with Syria and regarding the Golan Heights.

But, on a higher level, as with Jerusalem, as with Yehuda and Shomron, as with Gush Katif, if the B’nai Yisrael, or if the defense establishment takes it upon themselves to equivocate regarding our inalienable Divine right to the Golan, as an inseperable part of Eretz Yisrael, then what Divine right do we then have to ANY part of The Land? read more

Merkel’s Knesset Speech: Olmert Regime Goes Along With Farce

.
Commentary;

Near the end of Caroline Glick’s article below, she suggests three things that Israel do to express a power game; Use of her economic leverage by virtue of technological prowess, impressing on the Germans and the other Europeans that Israel possesses considerable military power (despite the Lebanon fiasco of two years ago) and will use it to defeat its enemies and exposition of “Europe’s humanitarian and pro-peace rhetoric as a hypocritical sham” meant to cover over both their long-engrained disdain, if not outright hatred for Jews, as well economic and diplomatic appeasement of the Islamic world. read more
