Foreign Ministry Efforts to Reinvent Israel as Liberal/Gay-Friendly…

Column One: Truth in Advertising, by Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post)

“One of the primary target audiences that the Foreign Ministry is trying to attract is the homosexual community. Ministry officials view gay culture as the entryway to the liberal culture because, as he put it, gay culture is the culture that creates ‘a buzz.'”

“The so-called liberal Left are the ones who call Israel “that shi**y little country” at fancy dinner parties.”

Excerpts;

Israel is trying to reinvent itself. Last week Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni hosted a conference where she launched a new multimillion dollar project to “rebrand” Israel. As Livni put it, since coming into office, she has been struck by the disparity between the vibrant, liberal, free Israel she knows and Israel’s image abroad. read more

The Foreign Ministry and the Re-Branding of Israel; Again?

.
On Wednesday evening, I was among 200 bloggers in Israel who attended Nefesh b’Nefesh’s first annual Bloggers Conference held at NBN offices in Givat Shaul.

There was nothing much new to come out of the various panel discussions, Q & As beyond the opportunities for face-to-face, in-person networking amongst bloggers. But the deli and salads were great.

For me, the comments at the conference compelled a re-focusing on old-fashioned proven methods of SEO — swapping blogroll links and blog comments with other bloggers in Jewish blogosphere. read more

Parsha Vayeira 5768: Stark Contrasts Between Chessed and Abject Cruelty

.

by Moshe Burt

Our Parsha opens with Hashem, as we understand, visiting Avraham Aveinu on the 3rd day after Bris Milah, when Avraham was at the height of his pain following the circumcision, as Rashi indicates, “to inquire about his welfare.” (Metsuda Linear Chumash rendering of Rashi on Perek 18, posuk 1)

It’s not like Hashem needed to pay a visit to ascertain Avraham’s actual condition for, Hashem is the Creator, The Master, The Ruler over the world who knows and is aware of everything. And so we learn and gain insight from this first posuk as to the Mitzvah of Bikur Cholim; showing, caring, giving strength and encouragement to the ill by visiting and caring about them. read more

Israel’s “Re-Branding”: Livni’s Foreign Ministry Re-Branding Israel as Sodom?

Bikini Branding and the Holy Land, by Yishai Fleisher (Israel National News)

For context, click here.

Excerpts;

In a bid to “re-brand” Israel’s unpopular world image, Tzippy Livni and the gang at the Foreign Ministry are about to embark on a massive PR campaign. Livni plans to paint Israel as a sexy, modern country with beautiful beaches and a successful high-tech industry to boot. Livni believes that by embarking on this “nation branding” campaign, she can move the perception of Israel away from war-torn and fanatical, to an image of the great Israeli dream – normalcy. read more

Ehud Olmert: Treif and Not Worthy of Honor by Religious Jews…

Outrage Against OU Decision to Honor Ehud Olmert

Full Text;

Protesters, including religious Jewish immigrants from North America who were evicted from their homes during the Disengagement and wounded by police brutality at Amona, will protest the Orthodox Union’s decision to honor Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at their annual convention in Jerusalem.

A protest rally under the banner “Hey OU – Olmert isn’t kosher” will take place outside the convention. “I find it hard to comprehend why a Torah organization would want to invite a person who has practically declared war on the National Religious camp in Israel,” protester Steve Schwartz wrote to the organization. “Your organization’s actions are a slap in the face to your fellow religious Jews in Israel.” read more

Protesting the Gay Desecration: Hypocritical, or A Message to Regime as to Religious Unity?

Is Marching as a Gay the Greatest of Sins? By Shmuley Boteach (Jerusalem Post)

“Where were the haredi demonstrators when they were needed to protest disengagement?”

“Yarmulke-wearing men and boys were dragged, and pregnant women with their hair covered were torn from their homes. And even today, as so many of the residents of Gush Katif continue to live in makeshift housing, I know of few great ultra-Orthodox authorities who call what happened by its proper name: an abomination.” read more
