Sefer Torah to be Donated for Yishuv Adura; Restoration Fund Raising in Home Stretch

The Sefer Torah Recycling Network, which has seen to acquiring, restoring and placing 11 Sifrei Torah in needy locations over the past 12 years, announces that fund-raising to cover purchase and restoration of a Sefer Torah for placement in Yishuv Adura is in it’s final phase. We have raised $4,000 of the $5,000 needed to defray acquisition, restoration and ancillary costs necessary to provide Yishuv Adura’s 46 families with the Sefer Torah they need, but cannot financially afford to acquire. We thank all of those who have donated thus far. Tizke L’Mitzvot! We now seek generous donors to cover the remaining $1,000. read more

Parshiyot Vayakhel/Pekudei: Paradigm Leadership, Accountability and Transparency = Unity of Klal Israel

The terms leadership, accountability and transparency have been bandied about often since last summer’s snafu in Lebanon and over these past months with the host of open files on both the state attorney general’s and state comptroller’s desk.

Our Parsha Vayakhel is dedicated to teaching B’nai Yisrael about Shabbat which has always, until recent times, been the unifying, defining factor of Judaism. It alludes to all else — Yishuv HaAretz, Kiddushin, etc. It symbolizes the Jew’s faith in Hashem. The parsha begins by stating that “Moshe assembled the entire congregation of B’nai Yisrael…” (Perek 35, Posuk 1) However, Torah’s loshen (language) “Adat B’nai Yisrael”, in the context of learning the laws of Shabbos as related to the construction of the Mishkan seems to indicate a unity, as one, amongst the Assembly of the B’nai Yisrael. read more

MK Ruby Rivlin, who will apparently face Minister Shimon Peres in the upcoming election for Israel’s next President, says he won’t stand in the way of a government decision to free murderous terrorist Marwan Barghouti.

It appears that the Knesset will choose from between MK Rivlin (Likud) and Deputy Prime Minister Peres (Kadima) when it elects Israel’s 9th President this coming July.

Rivlin, who served as Knesset Speaker from 2003-2006, met over the past few days with a delegation of foreign ambassadors and delegates in the Knesset. He told them that though he objects to an early release for arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti, he would not – by refusing to sign a pardon – veto a government decision to free him. read more

Gush Etzion Municipality to Honor Former Disengagement Defense Minister Mofaz

Gush Etzion Mayor Shaul Goldstein has apparently buried or subordinated his principles (if he had any in the first place), in awarding and glorifying Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, former Defense Minister during the August, 2005 expulsions of Jews from Gush Katif and 4 Shomron towns. Goldstein argues that Mofaz is receiving an award because of his refurbishment of Efrat Junction and because Gush Etzion is asking him to “double the lanes leading to Jerusalem.” This seems a definite case of distateful political glorification; Mofaz’s calling in the “debt”: the payoff for merely doing his job. read more
