Everyone must have seen the reports that 99% of Iranian drones, missiles and airborne devices from Yemen were downed by Israel’s air defenses and allied air forces. Of the few that penetrated Israeli air space, only minor, insignificant damage was done to one air force base.
But far less publicized was this: US Officials: Half of the Iranian Missiles Failed
US officials stated that half of the missiles launched by Iran at Israel either failed to launch or crashed before reaching their target.
Israel National News
Apr 15, 2024, 12:34 PMHalf of the missiles launched by Iran at Israel on Saturday night either failed to launch or crashed before reaching their target, ABC News reported citing US officials.
It is estimated that Tehran launched 150 ballistic and cruise missiles during the attack, a substantial number of which were intercepted by Israel’s aerial defense array.
CENTCOM announced on Sunday that US fighter jets and warships downed 80 drones and at least six ballistic missiles targeting Israel. Other countries that participated in the interceptions were the UK, France, and Jordan.
A senior US official told ABC News that at least nine missiles managed to get past the aerial defense array and hit the Nevatim Air Base and an additional IAF base in southern Israel.
Five of the missiles hit Nevatim, damaging a C-130 Hercules cargo plane, an unused runway, and empty warehouses. The other four missiles hit another base in the area, but no substantial damage was reported.
This author wonders if the 300 airborne Iranian projectiles(including the drones and the US report of an estimated 150 ballistic and cruise missiles) included those that “failed at launch or crashed before reaching target,” or whether the 300 only include those shot down and the handful which hit the Israeli air base. Are they indicating that there were double the amount of ballistic and cruise missile attempts?
