Repeated Shas Threats to Leave Government: Disdainfully Laughable

.

Commentary;

Repeated threats to leave the coalition become redundant and laughable when it becomes obvious that the party making threats is not serious. Further, the threats become empty and disdainful and maybe Olmert has the right to show a smirking countenance when the threats are repeatedly posed but not acted upon.

Leftist MK Ophir Paz-Pines expressed sentiments indicative of the regime’s disdain for Shas’ daily empty threats;

“‘Shas threatens to leave the coalition not twice every week but twice each day.'”

The point is, never make a threat that you are not prepared to carry out, or to harken back to an old “pro-wrestling” adage used before on this blog;

“To talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk.”

It seems ever so appropo to the Shas party! MB

Shas Threatens to Leave Government, Again

Full Text;

Shas Chairman Eli Yishai said Thursday that his party would leave the coalition if the government did not do more to care for poor children. Yishai accused the government of being “tight-fisted” with Israel’s children. “The only way to escape poverty is to reinstate welfare stipends,” he said.

The percent of poor families remained roughly the same in 2007 as it was in 2006, but the gap between poor and rich grew due to an increase in the standard of living among high-income families. The poorest areas in the country were the north, south, and Jerusalem, as in 2006.

Shas has threatened to quit the coalition multiple times in recent weeks. Shas MKs said they would leave the government if Israel agreed to negotiate the status of Jerusalem with the Palestinian Authority, and later said they would leave if the government maintained a building freeze in Jewish neighborhoods in the capital city.
