Report: Settlers to Spend Independence Day in Homesh

Full Text;

Families evacuated from the former settlement of Homesh plan to head to the ruins for a second time on Independence Day next week, Army Radio reported on Thursday.

“There is no greater gift for Independence Day than to return to the Zionist values of building and ideology,” said Yossi Dagan, one of the organizers of the Homesh campaign. “We will march up to Homesh with thousands of people, in a beautiful and joyous manner.”

IDF will Allow Homesh March

What One Can See From Homesh, by Moshe Dann (Israel national News)

Excerpts;
“A two-state solution leads to the Final Solution. The area of Homesh is… of major strategic importance to Israel’s security. Returning to and rebuilding Homesh, and strengthening Jewish communities throughout Judea and Samaria, are vital to Israeli security.”

Unlike last month’s march to the former settlement, which was coordinated in advance with the army, this one did not receive official IDF approval. However, the army plans to do its utmost to prevent violence on the national holiday.

Officials told Army Radio that if the marchers did request authorization, it would be granted, and security forces would even provide protection – even though the area is legally considered a closed military zone.

The IDF spokesman said in response that the army was operating under orders from the defense establishment and was conducting ongoing evaluations in order to keep a close eye on the situation in the area.

The Defense Ministry refused to address the report of the Homesh march. “The ministry did not receive any request on the issue, and when one comes, a comprehensive discussion will be held.”

At the end of last month, Homesh settlers headed to the site to reclaim their former home, camping out and setting up makeshift shelters. They were evacuated by police three days later, and no violent clashes took place during the event. Resistance was minimal, with only two protesters detained for questioning.
