Report: Olmert Defied Lindenstrauss War Investigation

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert refused to testify before a panel called by State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss on the poor state of Home Front preparedness during the summer war against Hizbullah terrorists, a weekend report said. The incident occurred at the beginning of the year and Olmert’s testimony was a required part of the investigative process Lindenstrauss undertook.

The report is set to be submitted to the Knesset on Tuesday without input from Olmert. On Saturday night, several organizations called on Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to order Olmert to answer the questions posed to him on the matter by Lindenstrauss.

On Friday, Army Radio broke the story of Olmert’s alleged refusal to meet with Lindenstrauss.

According to the report, sources in the State Comptroller’s Office said that on December 25, Lindenstrauss wrote to Olmert and requested a meeting to address home front-related issues. According to the sources, Olmert said on January 7 that he did not intend to meet with the comptroller, and instead offered to respond in writing to a series of written inquiries.

Lindenstrauss assented to the prime minister’s request, despite his feeling that it was “inappropriate,” and sent Olmert a letter containing questions on the main points he wished to investigate.

Army Radio said that as of Friday, approximately six weeks after Lindenstrauss sent his questions to Olmert, the prime minister had not responded.

This is about persecutional prosecution of those who love and cleave to the Land of Israel and about a prime minister and a regime who consider themselves above the law. This is about a prime minister who sanitizes a debacle by only appointing his friends who he is sure, at the conclusion of all investigations of last summer’s Lebanon action, will give the Prime Minister and his regime a bogus “clean bill of health.” This is about a regime who systematically squashed a potentially incriminating investigation regarding police violence at Amona.
