The Consequences of the Expulsion…

The Crime and Punishment of Gush Katif, By Uri Elitzur (Ynet)

“The commentators gave opposing views and estimates, but not even one of them thought the major general said what he did simply because he believed what he was saying.”

“No committee of inquiry is built to probe ties that that go so deeply. But if they really want to fix the foundations, they should look courageously at the signs indicating that all the failures and downfalls we have experienced in the past year didn’t constitute the crime but rather the punishment.” read more

Approaching War: Israel’s Military and Governmental Leaders in Denial…

Column One: As The Storm of War Approaches, By Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post)

Excerpts;

The clouds of the coming war are converging upon Israel. But our political and military leaders refuse to look up at the darkening sky.

The Russian bear has awakened after 15 years of hibernation. Under the leadership of former KGB commander President Vladimir Putin, Russia is reasserting its traditional hostility towards Israel.

On Tuesday, Russian military engineers landed in Beirut. Their arrival signaled the first time that Russian forces have openly deployed in the Middle East. In the past Soviet forces in Syria and Egypt operated under the official cover of “military advisers.” Today those “advisers” are “engineers.” The Russian forces, which will officially number some 550 troops, are tasked with rebuilding a number of bridges that the IDF destroyed during the recent war. They will operate outside the command of UNIFIL. read more

Diaspora Jewry and Aliyah…

Netanyahu: No Future for Diaspora Jewry By Gil Hoffman (Jerusalem Post)

null

Commentary;

Bibi is not exactly a favorite on this blog. But, in this case he is right, and the truth MUST be heard and repeated often enough in different ways, in different contexts, but repeated until it is understood and internalized in Chutz L’Aretz.

The point is, this author is kind of sick of how the machers laugh under their breath and disdainfully mock anyone promoting Aliyah. And the time is approaching when atmosphere in the US and in Europe will be particularly conducive to seriously consider Aliyah. MB read more

The Way to an Independent War Commission…

State Comptroller’s Report May Spark Independent War Commission

For Context, click here.

Full Text;

The state comptroller’s investigation into the war in Lebanon some feel may spark the formation of an independent commission of inquiry as is being demanded by many.

State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss has assigned 50 members of his staff to investigate the war in Lebanon, a report that is likely to spark much criticism after it is submitted to the Knesset Audit Committee.

Committee Chair MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Esterina Tratman is expected to use the report to launch her drive towards the establishment of an independent commission, unwilling to accept Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s government-appointed commission with its limited mandate. Tratman has called on the State Comptroller’s Office to submit an interim report, hoping to find the ammunition to arm herself for the battle against the prime minister, who remains adamantly opposed to an independent commission. read more

High Court of Justice to Olmert Regime: Show-Cause Why No State Commission…

High Court: Why No State Commission?

Commentary;

Will all of Olmert’s excuses for forming the Winograd Commission rather than submitting to an independent State Commission fly with the Supreme Court? MB

Excerpts;

The High Court of Justice on Thursday issued a show-cause order and gave the state six days to explain why it had appointed a government committee of examination into the second Lebanese war instead of a state commission of inquiry headed by a Supreme Court justice.

A panel of three judges headed by Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch ordered the state to explain what was the scope of the government committee’s powers to investigate a matter of “general national significance” and whether it was proper for the government to appoint a committee which would have to investigate those who appointed it. read more

Winograd Commission: Judges of, or Subordinate to, the Regime Initiating It?

A Commission on Probation By Ari Shavit (Haaretz)

“Judge Eliyahu Winograd, Yehezkel Dror, Haim Nagel, Menachem Einan and Ruth Gavison are now facing the most important moment of their public lives. Nothing that they have done in the past comes close in importance to what they are about to do now. No professional achievement that they might attain in the future will be able to atone for a crucial mistake made now.”

“History will not forgive the members of the Winograd Commission if, in this fateful autumn, they fail to rise above themselves, and instead fall asleep on their watch and betray their mission.” read more
