18 from Judea and Samaria – Banished from Homes
Commentary;
Are we witnessing the start of a new string of expulsions and persecutions by the Olmert Regime reminiscent of recent events in Amona, as well as Shalhevet neighborhood and Beit Shapira in Chevron? MB
Thanks to Suzie Dym of Cities of Israel (Matot Arim):
Full Text;
18 people from various outposts in the Yizhar area have received expulsion orders, during the Holiday period, from the IDF, which order them to vacate their homes and leave the entire area of Judea and Samaria, for a period of 3 months, half a year and in some cases — even an entire year.
No compensation is being offered; no reason is being given other than that they “will bother the Arabs during the harvest”. Does that explain why 18 people are being ordered to leave the entire area of Judea & Samaria (not just a certain olive grove…) for a whole year (rather than just the harvest-period)?? Also — since when does one punish someone (other than terrorists which endanger lives) without trying them in court? Would that be tolerated in Ramat haSharon — or in North Tel Aviv?? Has anyone bothered to PROVE these allegations against the 18 deportees? Of course not!!
Mattot Arim is now organizing a campaign to get the MKs working on this issue. Can you help? We need volunteers, each of whom will “adopt” one specific MK, will call him, explain to him the plight of the above men, explain that we now have a campaign in which EACH AND EVERY RIGHTWING MK is being asked to help — not to be passive! You then write down exactly what the MK’s aide or MK himself says to you, and report back to us! Usually quite a few polite reminder and explanatory phonecalls are needed so prepare yourself for as many as 5, 10, 20 or (in rare cases) 30 brief phonecalls to “your” MK!!
The 18 expelled men, all of whom are residents of Yizhar, outposts near Yizhar, and other remote locations in Judea and Samaria, are:
Boaz Albert and Nerya Ofan, both married and fathers of 5 (how are they supposed to make a living if they are expelled from their hometown?? Find a job for a few months somewhere outside of Yesha and expect to find their old job waiting for them upon their return?? And are their wives supposed to live by themselves for a year — or follow their husbands into exile thereby losing their jobs too?? This is just so ridiculous!!)
Hanoch Albert, married and father of 3
Aryeh Gruner, Meir Bartler, Eran Schwartz, Yehoyariv and Shlomo Meir — all married + 1
Edan Malul, Yehuda Meir, Oriya Cohen, Hen Raz, Hanan Herbst, Yehoshua and Yehuda Albert, Hillel Shiloach, Mordechai Noam, Elad Keller — no children (yet)
Important note: We tend to assume that these guys MUST have done something very bad. Probably, we assure ourselves, evidence will soon be found and they will be put on trial and convicted. If you, too, assume this please note that Nerya Ofan (father of 5, originator of the Jews Don’t Expel Jews slogan, founder of the Sivuv Shearim project in Jerusalem) was already in administrative detention (i.e. in jail without trial) during the Great Expulsion. Recently I had occasion to ask him which indictments were eventually served against him: “Well,” Nerya responded thoughtfully, “one indictment was served against me because I had a “No Arabs — no terrorism” sticker on my car. And I got another indictment, because someone who was sitting in the back seat of my car shouted an insult at an army rabbi who was walking by on the sidewalk. That’s all”.
“That’s all??” I asked in shock. “No serious violence? You didn’t kill any Arabs?”
“Yes — that was all,” said Nerya. “Just the stickers — and the insulted rabbi”.
For that an Israeli father of 5 spends 4 months in jail, without trial, and is now being expelled — again without trial — from his home!!!
We need our MKs to get busy with this. Thank you so much in advance for volunteering for this important project. We will NOT let our MKs be silent!! As this week’s Torah portion says: We ARE our brothers’ keepers!!
Please contact me urgently and I’ll give you the name of the MK who is waiting for YOUR call — Susie Dym, spokesperson, Mattot Arim.
