Home Front Report Indicates ‘Complete Disorder’

MK Ami Ayalon, head of the investigation committee into the management of the home front during the war in Lebanon, submitted the committee’s findings to the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday morning.

The report claimed that the government ministries had failed to properly take care of the home front during the war and that “complete disorder” had prevailed.

It also said that no one body had coordinated the home front management, and that even when such a body was set up by the Prime Minister’s Office, no definite goals were set for it. read more

Peretz Authorizes Destruction of 90 Buildings in Judea & Samaria

Defense Minister Amir Peretz on Monday night gave authorization to IDF officials to evacuate and destroy 90 buildings throughout Judea and Samaria termed illegal by the Civil Administration. Military officials reported about one-half are Israeli and the remainder Arab.

The defense minister instructed the military to carry out the order using its own timetable that best serves the IDF’s considerations.

It is unclear whether the decision means the destruction of small hilltop communities termed “outposts” by the government. read more

The story behind the Unesaneh Tokef tefillah (expressing the seriousness of the day): relates the Gezeira Rah (evil decree) faced by R’ Amnon of Mainz and his Kehilla of forced conversion to Christianity dating back about 1,000 years.

R’ Amnon who, with his Kehilla, faced dread coersion as well as mortal, imminent threat of death, gave the perception of consideration of possible compliance with the demand to convert to Christianity and, as a result, became distraught at even having given the impression that he could betray Hashem. read more

The Winograd Committee, created to probe the war in Lebanon, is expected to start its work on Monday, following a tortuous route, whereby it took almost as long for the government to set up a committee to investigate the war as it did to fight the war itself.

The cabinet on Sunday approved the establishment of the Winograd Governmental Investigative Committee by a vote of 20-2, with Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) abstaining. read more

Call it “the news not deemed worthy of reporting”.

Several days ago, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza resumed firing rockets into Israel, and they have been doing so on a daily basis – but you won’t read much about it in the international press.

Indeed, just this morning, three Qassam rockets landed in Israel’s western Negev region. One of them hit the town of Sderot, leaving one person lightly wounded and two others requiring treatment for shock. read more
