Israel’s September 10th Syndrome Exploded: A Must Read …

The View from Haifa September 10th Syndrome By Steven Plaut

Excerpts;

“All you do all day is threaten that there will be Katyusha rockets landing in Ashkelon. Would you mind telling me why there are no rockets fired from Aqaba to Eilat?” Foreign Minister and Labor MK Shimon Peres, Knesset minutes, September 9, 1993

I could still hear Peres’s words echoing when Katyusha rockets began exploding in Haifa a few days ago, some of them just several blocks from my home. Filled with thousands of lead pellets to maximize the carnage, one of them ended the lives of nine people in a Haifa train depot. read more

Peretz Hints at Ground Operation in Lebanon

Excerpts;

Defense Minister Amir Peretz hinted Thursday that the Israel Defense Forces could launch a ground operation in Lebanon.

“Hezbollah must not think that we would recoil from using all kinds of military measures against it,” Peretz said during a visit to communities in the Katyusha-battered north.

“We have no intention of occupying Lebanon, but we also have no intention of retreating from any military measures needed,” he said. read more

View of War in the North Up Close …

Our World: How I Spent My Summer Vacation, By Caroline Glick

Excerpts;

As I drove along the empty, beautiful, mountain road and gazed at the rocket smoke buffeting upwards from Mt. Meron, Safed, and Rosh Pinna below me, commentators on the radio kept asking, “Why is Hizbullah attacking Israel now?” Former generals spoke of the need for Israel to restore our deterrence against Hizbullah.

FOR SIX years, since Ehud Barak surrendered to the demands of the radical, EU-funded Israeli Left and withdrew IDF forces from southern Lebanon in May 2000, Israel stood by and did nothing as Hizbullah built up its massive arsenal of rockets and missiles. The IDF did nothing as Iran effectively set up shop along the border. read more

Politicization and Manipulation of Media to Give Only Regime Spin on Rockets in Lebanon?

MK Erdan: Restrict Publication of Rocket Landings

Full Text;

MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) called on Defense Minister Amir Peretz to enact Section 87 of Defense Emergency Regulations and tell the military censor to restrict media publication of the exact locations of rocket landings.

“The public feels a need to keep up with what’s going on, but it is still necessary to release strictly general information that’s not likely to aid the enemy and endanger the security of Israel and its citizens,” Erdan said. read more

Israeli Ground Troops Enter Lebanon

Excerpts;

At daybreak Wednesday, a small number of Israeli troops were operating just across the border inside southern Lebanon, looking for tunnels and weapons, the Israeli military said without providing any more details.

The incursion came a day after Israel indicated that it might send large numbers of ground troops into the southern Lebanon, but Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Dan Gillerman denied Wednesday’s operation was part of any such operation.

“What is going on at the moment is a number of Israeli ground troops very near to the border on the Lebanese side, trying to destroy some Hezbollah outposts,” he told CNN. read more

Parsha Matos 5766: Remaining “in peace” During a War of Survival — Revisited …

Parsha Matos/Masei 5766: Remaining “in peace” During a War of Survival — Revisited

By, Moshe Burt

In Parsha Matos, Sh’vatim Gad and Reuven approached Moshe Rabbeinu regarding their desire to graze their flocks and settle their families on the East side of the Yarden. To this, Moshe Rabbeinu replied, “Shall your brothers go off to war, and shall you sit here?” (Sefer Bamidbar, Perek 32, posuk 6)

Moshe was quite angry at the two Sh’vatim. He was concerned lest Gad and Reuven would avoid taking part in the wars for Eretz Yisrael, that the Sh’vatim might follow suit and B’nai Yisrael might be condemned to wandering in the desert another 40 years. read more

Thanks to you, our enemies come up against a united nation, which fights together, shoulder to shoulder. We do not surrender and we do not panic. Is Israel’s Spirit of Sacrifice Dying?

Israel’s New Fear By Ralph Peters

Excerpt;

Something big hasn’t happened in the current round of fighting between Israel and its terrorist foes. That absence represents a potentially fatal change in Israeli policy.

For all of the air-attacks on targets in Lebanon, the Israeli Defense Force has not sent in ground troops. If IDF tanks don’t thrust across the border in force in the next few days, it will reflect the greatest crisis of will in Israel’s history.

Israel is signaling its enemies that it’s afraid to risk its soldiers’ lives. And the terrorists read the message clearly. This caution will only encourage Israel’s enemies – just when the seemingly inevitable advent of Iranian nuclear weapons poses the greatest threat to Israel since 1948. read more

Now, As Then, Our “Leaders” Lead Us Astray …

The Specter in the Synagogue by Moshe Feiglin

Excerpts;

He had come for a visit in Israel, and we met in a Jerusalem hotel. We talked about Jewish identity, my analysis of today’s reality in Israel, about the need for belief-based leadership that can deal with the challenges facing our nation. We also talked about how hard it is to change the public’s perspective on reality — even when time and again the facts disprove the illusion. We talked and talked. The man had a remarkable grasp of the truth and I hardly noticed the time that had passed. Unexpectedly, he turned silent. He looked out the window and his eyes misted over. “I want to tell you something,” he said. read more
