Commentary #1;
Here we have the “great debate” inside Kadima about the validity of realignment in view of the Gaza situation as Justice Minister Haim Ramon and Housing Minister Meir Sheetrit go pro and con on the issue.
Aaron Lerner of IMRA once again makes an eminently valid point;
It should be noted that when retreat proponents make the argument that thanks to the retreat from Gaza that the IDF is able to act without foreign pressure – this while they know full well that the IDF has been barred from launching a truly effective campaign out of fear of foreign pressure – that they are genuinely making the claim.
In point of fact, the Olmert spin team has devoted considerable resources on getting this message out – relying on the Israeli public’s not noticing that reality does not coincide with the message.
Ramon: Realignment More Relevant Than Ever
Minister: Slim Chance for Realignment
Commentary #2;
This author will not demean, or waste space on this blog to analyse or contrast what either Ramon or Sheetrit said. The reason is that they are both playing good-cop, bad-cop in the thought police against the Jewish people.
Even in the case of “Mr. Personality”, Meir Sheetrit who supposedly is speaking against “convergence”, his opposition is for all of the wrong reasons and therefore represents no opposition at all. He states that he believes ” …in peace, but… by agreement…. We need patience, until there is someone to talk to”, that no unilateral steps be done, that “Even (former) Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opposed more Israeli retreats.” Just shy of 2 months ago, on Yom Hatsma’ot, Sheetrit had the audacity to stand before the International Bible Quiz and proclaim that “This country belongs to two peoples.”
As this blog noted some time ago, former Education Minister Meir Sheetrit may have “problems” with “consolidation”, but “dimes to dollars” that his obvious blind hatred for religious Jews, anything Jewish and Eretz Yisrael would blind him to all of the dangers if or when it comes to voting time on ‘convergence.’ No profile in courage here! This is because Meir Sheetrit doesn’t believe with perfect faith and with ironclad principle that the Land of Israel belongs to the Jews by Divine legacy. MB
