Former Interim Education Minister, Meir Sheetrit: “This Country Belongs to Two Peoples.”

“The rudeness and arrogance demonstrated by the interim education minister appears to have been driven by a deeper motivation.”

The Quiz and the Education Minister

Excerpts;

One of the most distinctive events of Independence Day is the International Bible Quiz for Jewish youth held every year in Jerusalem. I am moved each time to watch the splendid representatives of so many Diaspora communities, and Israel, demonstrating their impressive knowledge of the Holy Scriptures.

At this event, the Bible – the glue that holds all Jews together – unifies the younger generation from all over the world who come to Israel’s capital to display their mastery of our nation’s formative text. read more

High Court Grabs for Executive Powers …

Judicial Power Grab, by Evelyn Gordon

Excerpt;

Sunday’s High Court of Justice ruling on the amended Citizenship Law mandates urgent action by the government. The critical task is not drafting new immigration legislation, though this, too, is necessary, since the current law expires on June 30, and the court clearly indicated that it would not approve a lengthy further extension. Rather, it is reforming the judicial selection process – because without this, the government will be unable to enact any immigration legislation. read more

Peace Now: Set Evacuation Time Frame

Ordering the IDF to prepare an evacuation operation plan, Peretz signed eviction orders for 12 illegal outposts in the West Bank, in what could lead the defense establishment on a collision course with the settlement movement.

Peretz’s decision on Wednesday was to reinstate the evacuation orders to grant the defense establishment the ability to speedily evacuate the outposts if he decided to. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert also gave his approval for the eviction orders. The outposts designated for eviction included: Mizpeh Yitzhar near the settlement of Yitzhar; Yitzhar Darom (South); Havat Shaked; Givat Hadegel near Karnei Shomron; Givat Haroeh near Ramallah; Mizpeh Assaf near Beit El; Mizpeh Lahish near Hebron and Hazon David near Kiryat Arba. read more

Bar-Yochai, Happy is the Nation that Learns From You

Bar-Yochai, Happy is the Nation that Learns From You, Rabbi Dov Begon

Excerpts;

Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai merited this stature by virtue of self-sacrifice. He was ready to exempt the whole world from divine punishment through his suffering, like loving parents who are ready to suffer so that their children don’t have to (see Succah 45b). Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai particularly felt the pain of the Jewish People and of Eretz Yisrael. He couldn’t bear to have a foreign nation, the Romans, ruling over the People and the Land of Israel; and he spoke to the Roman’s detriment. As a result, the Romans pursued him and wished to kill him, and he was forced to hide in a cave for twelve years with his son. read more

IDF Intelligence: Heads in the Sand? Overnight War News …

IDF General Says Katyusha Not an Escalation of PA Terrorism

Excerpts;

Despite heavy damage to a chicken coop, Chief of IDF intelligence Gen. Amos Yadlin says that Tuesday’s firing of a Katyusha rocket is not an escalation of the conflict between Israel and the PA.

Yadlin supported his view by comparing Tuesday’s attack on Netiv HaAsarah with a similar strike which occurred on March 28, the date of the Israeli election. That strike caused no injuries or damage. Tuesday’s attack, however, caused substantial damage to a chicken coop. No one was injured, but 30 birds were destroyed. read more

Parsha Behar; Shemittoh — A Connection of a Jew to HIS Land.

Parsha Behar; Shemittoh — A Connection of a Jew to HIS Land.

By, Moshe Burt

Rashi asks a critical question on the very first posuk of our Parsha; “Hashem spoke to Moshe on Har Sinai, saying.” (Parsha Behar, Vayikra Perek 25, posuk 1) He asks why the laws of Shemittoh are singled out as having been given at Sinai. Were not all of the Mitzvot said at Sinai?” He answers that just as all of the Mitzvot; their general rules and their specifics were taught at Sinai, so too were the general rules and specifics regarding Shemittoh taught at Sinai. Rashi then reasons that the posuk comes to teach us that every utterance said to Moshe, they were all from Sinai. read more
