Olmert: Deceiving Himself Regarding Elections as a “National Referendum?”

Olmert: Election Was a National Referendum

Full Text;

Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told senior Kadima members on Wednesday night that he agrees with those who said the election was a referendum, the voice of the people, and Kadima has been chosen.

Olmert stated that since Kadima emerged the largest party, it is a vote of support for his policies, including plans to move ahead towards an agreement with the Palestinian Authority (PA), or in the absence of cooperation, moving forward with his “concentrating inward” plan, unilaterally.

Olmert stated that coalition talks are continuing with potential partners, stating he hopes to build the widest based coalition possible.

Commentary;

Is Olmert setting himself up for a big fall with this type of thinking? The fact of the matter is that, all although no Right Wing party or natural Right Wing ally registered enough MKs to reach Kadima’s 28 MK level, Right Wing parties and their natural allies registered enough votes and mandatim to cast this election as essentially a draw.

There is NO Mandate for further withdrawals in Yehuda and Shomron.
And if Olmert stubbornly insists, below is one likely scenario.
