We read each day in Pesukei D’Zimrah (The praises of G’d), “He balks at the designs of peoples. Many designs are in man’s heart, but the counsel of Hashem — only it will prevail.”
We watched as a bullying, hard-hearted Prime Minister bulldozed through his hateful, vindictive expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif in those fateful days in August, 2005 as his opponents stood divided against themselves, seemingly handcuffed as the fate of thousands of Gush Katif residents hung in the balance while the old General divided, conquered and forced the expulsion’s actualization.
Then we watched as the bully General arrogantly abandoned his home party while forming a new party rather than contest for leadership in that previous party. And we watched as all of the small-time hacks and lackies followed their leader into this party. It was to be a Mega-Party, this Team Sharon known as “Kadima.”
Then we watched how the bully, the bulldozer Prime Minister suffered 2 strokes within three weeks, the second being catastrophic, just as he was hatching his plans for the next, more fearsome yet round of expulsions encompassing great swarths of Yehuda and Shomron and tens of thousands of Jews.
And we watched as the Doctors, the neurological specialists might well have overlooked an elementary test and thus administered the wrong treatment, blood thinning, after the first, mild stroke. The wrong treatment, for possible lack of a test, according to some accounts may have directly led to the second, fateful stroke which has left the Prime Minister in a coma, apparently in terminal condition. “…The counsel of Hashem — only it will prevail.”
We all watched in horror as a Deputy PM Lackie, who according to the prevailing rules of Prime Ministerial succcession, assumed power, surrendered the Gaza crossings to terrorists, handed Hamas their crushing electoral victory and handed the Arabs 250 million NIS, a reward for murderous terrorism. He proceeded to out-bully the bully, turning loose a violent, brutal police and Yassamnik force to bludgeon, beat and brutalize the thousands of Jews who gathered in Amona to resist the destruction of 9 Jewish homes on Jewish land.
We watch to see what happens to all of the hacks and lackies who bolted from their home political parties for the Mega-Party of Sharon who are now “all dressed up with nowhere to go.” Despite the misleading, inaccurate and unrepresentative polling, Kadima seems headed in the way of all such seeming Mega-factions of past; to crushing defeat.
And we all await Hashem’s response to these latest acts for we know; “…The counsel of Hashem — only it will prevail.”
Oh, that if we only had a just Medina based on the only real, true constitutional body of laws — the Torah. If only we had a legal system for upholding Torah Law, it’s enactment, enforcement and judgement, based on Chumash’s description of Yithro’s efficient system of Judges and representation whereby Moshe’s judgement duties were delegated to his Talmidim, with his disciples then hearing the bulk of the cases with only the difficult cases coming before Moshe as the Judge of final appeal.
Yithro called for the appointment “…of able men, G’d-fearing men, men of truth, hating profit and place them over the people, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.” (Sh’mos, Perek 18, posuk 21) Four posukim later, we learn that “Moshe chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people…”(Sh’mos, Perek 18, posuk 25) On the omission of “G’d-fearing men” in this later posuk, the Ibn Ezra notes that “this is obvious, and the Torah did not mention ‘G’d-fearing men’ because only Hashem knows what is in man’s heart.” (Torah Gems Volume 2, page 131.) I believe this knowledge to be what constitutes Intent.
We await the Geula Shlaima daily, the ascendence of such a Medina.
May it be in this year and beyond, that our brethren; the refugee families from Gush Katif and the Shomron (may they soon be restored to new homes and neighborhoods, Bati Knesset, Yeshivot in Gush Katif and the Shomron and only happiness and success for all time), as well as our dear brother, Jonathan Pollard (may he soon know freedom and long life in Eretz Yisrael) be central in our thoughts, prayers, chassadim and actions. May this abominable period of history called hitnatkut be as a bad dream.
May we be zocha in this coming year to take giant steps toward fulfilling Hashem’s blueprint of B’nai Yisrael as a Unique people — an Am Segula, not to be reckoned with as with “the nations” and may we be zocha the Moshiach, the Ge’ula Shlaima, “Yom Hashem V’Kol HaGoyim”, the Ultimate Redemption, bim hay v’yameinu — speedily, in our time”, — Achshav, Chik Chuk, Meiyad, Etmol!!!
Good Shabbos!
