For Omri: A Comparative Slap on the Wrist …

PM Sharon’s Son Omri Sentenced to 9 Months in Jail

Excerpts;

Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court Judge Edna Bankenstein on Tuesday sentenced Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s son, Omri, to nine months in jail, nine months probation, and a NIS 300,000 fine.

“However, in light of his father’s condition, the judge granted a postponement of his jail time for six months.”

“Sharon’s lawyer, Navit Negev, complained that the sentence was too stiff and that they planned to appeal, Army Radio reported.”

“Another of Sharon’s lawyers, Dan Scheinemann, told the court in January that it would be ‘absurd’ and a ‘miscarriage of justice’ to give Sharon a prison sentence. Tel Aviv District Attorney’s Office Prosecutor Erez Nurieli, on the other hand, argued that Sharon’s actions involved moral turpitude and that he should be sentenced to ‘some period of time’ in jail.

“Labor MK Yuli Tamir responded to the sentencing, ‘The punishment is fitting. Omri Sharon, a founder of Kadima, planted the seed of corruption.'”

“National Religious Party-National Union MK Zvi Hendel said that while Omri Sharon was going to be imprisoned for a few months, the people of Israel would be imprisoned for a few years under the rule of Kadima, which was the party established by Omri and his corrupt associates.

“Labor MK Shelly Yachimovich described Sharon as Kadima’s operations officer and said that under his command various forms of corruption transpired such as the Cyril Kern case and the Greek Island affair.”
