Going for Broke

Interesting political editorial. Will there be Peretz’s sequal in Likud — a Feiglin victory in a Sharon-less Likud? Stay tuned! MB

Lieberman Urges Right to Unite to face Sharon

Excerpts:

“National Union leader Avigdor Lieberman proposed Saturday afternoon that Likud, National Religious Party and the National Union merge into a single right-wing bloc in the upcoming general elections, if Prime Minister Ariel Sharon decides to quit Likud.”

“Lieberman said on a program aired on Israel Radio that the right needs to form a common front to check Sharon and the Labor Party.”

“Meanwhile, legal preparations necessary for creating a new party headed by Sharon were completed on Saturday.”

“While Sharon intends to decide by Saturday night, he might not announce his decision until he meets with the Likud Knesset faction on Monday, a close associate said.”

Imagine that, Feiglin’s got a shot at becoming leader of bloc which could win 30 – 35 seats. If the Chareidim (Gimmel, Shas) show real principles — over 40, maybe more. As I said, stay tuned. MB

Peretz to Campaign in Russian

Excerpts:

“Sources in the Labor party said their chairman is aware of the stigmas Russian speaking immigrants have about both Labor and Amir Peretz himself. ‘Russians don’t like the moustache, the resemblance to Stalin and his connection to the Histadrut (Workers’ Union), all of which remind them of what they had back home,’ they said.”

“’A direct appeal to them by Peretz in Russian will prove the importance he attaches to the immigrant community, and will help them judge him for his words and not stereotypes,’ they added.”

But total, arrogant disdain for English! MB
