Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee 10 days ago that weapons smuggling from Egypt into the Gaza Strip has increased greatly since the Israel Defense Forces withdrew on September 12, 2005.

If Professor Aumann fears Israel’s becoming a Bolshevik state, what can be said for the situation of American Jews. The Israeli government, through the IDF, transferred 1,050 Kalachnikov rifles and one million bullets to the Palestinian Authority on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weapons reached the Allenby Crossing, on the Jordan-Israel border, as a gift to the PA from the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan. After receiving orders from the government, IDF forces transported the weapons from the Jordanians across Israel and handed them over to PA forces at the Erez and Karni crossings into the Gaza Strip.

A Finance Ministry official has revealed that the cost of the expulsion program has cost $2 billion and will rise. “The costs just keep mounting,” said deputy budget director Harel Belinda. He also described the problem of unemployment among the expulsion victims as a “ticking bomb.”
The plight of the former Gaza region and northern Samaria residents is exacerbated by the government’s fear of submitting amendments because factions on the right and left would try to change the law. “The government will have to withdraw the law if any changes proposed by MKs are made to it. This would be catastrophic for us since we’ll find ourselves helpless in the face of the distress of the evacuees,” warned Ra’anan Dinur, director general of the office of the Prime Minister.
