Olmert: Conflict with Arabs Will Not Stop More Israeli Withdrawals

At a press conference in Jerusalem for foreign journalists, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the conflict with Arab terrorists will not stop Israel from withdrawing from more territory in Judea and Samaria and uprooting thousands of Israelis from their homes.
Olmert said: “We want to separate from the Palestinians in a friendly way, but if the terrorist organizations force violence upon us, both Israelis and Palestinians will suffer the consequences.
Likud May OK ‘Demilitarized PA Entity’

Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu is working on a new diplomatic plan for the party, which will endorse the creation of a “demilitarized Palestinian entity” with contiguity in the West Bank, Netanyahu revealed in an interview with journalist Shalom Yerushalmi published over the weekend in the local Jerusalem weekly Kol Hazman.
Netanyahu, who endorsed the Oslo diplomatic process as prime minister, said he would be ready to support dismantling settlements as part of negotiations with a Palestinian Authority that recognized Israel.
Shas to Support Gov’t in No-Confidence Motion on J’lem Gay Pride Parade

The ultra-Orthodox Shas party will support the government on Monday in a no-confidence motion on the gay pride parade scheduled to be held in Jerusalem in early August.
The motion was submitted by ultra-Orthodox party United Torah Judaism.
In return for its support Shas required that the government call on Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupolianski to act for the cancellation of the parade.

PM Willing to Deal with ‘Moderate’ Palestinian Leaders

While Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Sunday’s cabinet meeting ruled out a prisoner swap with Hamas, he noted that he has expressed willingness in the past to release Palestinian prisoners in a deal with moderate Palestinian leaders.
Olmert’s comments could indicate the possibility of an indirect deal to win the release of a captive IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit.
Olmert told the cabinet that he had been considering a prisoner release long before Shalit was kidnapped on June 25, but said that such a deal could only take place with moderate Palestinians.

The High Court of Justice is due on to hold a hearing on Sunday concerning two petitions challenging the legality of the procedure in which a Jewish company took possession of 900 dunams of land in the West Bank and the construction of apartment buildings for Jewish settlers on the site.
According to the first petition, filed by Peace Now, several construction companies are building housing in a new neighborhood of Modi’in Illit called Matityahu East without legal building permits and on the basis of a planning scheme not approved by the planning authorities.

Olmert said he hid his plan to visit Sderot because he didn’t want to give the Palestinian Authority a special reason to launch rockets against the city. That statement, like the government’s decision to retake the destroyed communities of Dugit, Elei Sinai and Nisanit in a bid to halt the Palestinian rocket offensive, is a clear admission that the IDF is incapable of defending southern Israel from outside the Gaza Strip.
Four Wounded as Kassam Rocket Strikes Sderot Home
