The Security Cabinet on Wednesday approved a wider ground offensive in south Lebanon that was expected to take 30 days as part of a new push to badly damage Hizbullah, Cabinet minister Eli Yishai said.
The decision was made with nine ministers in favor and three abstaining. The Security Cabinet authorized troops to push to the Litani River some 30 kilometers from the Israel-Lebanon border. Currently, some 10,000 soldiers are fighting Hizbullah in a six-kilometer-deep stretch from the Israel-Lebanon border.

We remember much regarding the terrible abuse done by the evil regime last year to our brethren from Gush Katif. And in remembering, we recall Ehud Olmert’s arrogant, negative “greeting” to those Olim Chadashim who arrived one year ago, on the second day of the expulsion, 17 August, 2005. And we hope that these latest Olim Chadashim will be greeted in a more positive way. MB
FLASH: 15 Soldiers Killed Wednesday in South Lebanon

In the most serious incident, nine reserve paratroopers were killed, 11 wounded by antitank missiles fired on a house in the village of Debel, in the central sector. Whatever marginal diplomatic gains the Olmert government may try to convince the public the draft resolution contains for Israel, the fact is that regardless of the language eventually adopted, and whatever force of French, Egyptian, Turkish, Italian and German soldiers will or will not be deployed to Lebanon, all any cease-fire resolution will do is ensure that there will be another round of war.
This is the case because none of the moves being considered involve the one action that would prevent the next war. That action is an Israeli victory against Hizbullah in Lebanon, and an Israeli and allied strike against Hizbullah’s state sponsors Syria and Iran.

In the past, Parsha Eikev has been equated in terms of one’s being attentive to the little Mitzvot; the details, the Mitzvot that one tends to overlook, to ignore, to tread one’s heels on in the mad dash, but without which the Jewish people would lack the merit which sets us apart from common man.
