Hours before deciding to launch a major ground operation in Lebanon last August 11, shortly before the end of the Second Lebanon War, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert consulted four people who hold no official government position.
In a meeting at his house, the four advised him to launch the operation in an effort to influence the United Nations Security Council’s emerging cease-fire resolution, but to halt it immediately should a resolution favorable to Israel be adopted.

In the final paragraph, Evelyn Gordon states;
Israeli Arab leaders, and their Jewish and European donors, should understand one thing: Israel’s Jewish majority will never willingly concede its national home. Thus by encouraging aspirations to destroy the Jewish state rather than encouraging acceptance of it, they are sowing the seeds not of coexistence, but of civil war.

Commentary:
This blog wrote about the Consequences of lack of a thorough, thought-through military plan. The same holds true for foreign, economic and enegy policy, i.e. negotiating with and ceding parts of Divine sovereign Jewish land to an enemy who craves our destruction. This gas deal with the PA is obviously fuel blackmail waiting to happen — turning off the pump to force further concessions. But Olmert, Livni and the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, as with their predessessors, lack the ability to think two or three steps ahead. MB

There was a time in recent history, in Israel’s previous wars, where the IDF had the capacity to plan ahead, to plan not only the battle at hand, but to see the implications of the battle at hand and to plan two or three steps ahead and yet to improvise — or in NFL terminology; to “audible at the line of scrimmage.”
