The title speaks to 2 of THE major issues (if that’s the most appropriate term to use) very much on the mind of religious Jews in Israel, and hopefully in the US as we approach the end of Chodesh Mar-Cheshvan and Rosh Kodesh Kislev. Commentary;

The Mercaz HaRav pogrom has had a profound impact on the Rabbanim.

One may recall that many in the community mistook the terrorist’s gunshots for firecrackers.

On Sunday, Rav Kanievsky issued p’sak banning employment of Arabs.

Now the Chief Ashkenaz and S’fardi Rabbis have issued a ban on firecrackers. Perhaps now, if Israelis bother to listen to Rabbis (highly doubtful), we may hear less of those booms around Ramat Beit Shemesh which sound very much like gunfire or Kassams. MB read more

Commentary;

There is a type of “convergence” of several major stories of this time into one;

• The not-so-secret meetings between Ehud Olmert, Tzipy Livni, Mahmud Abbas and Ahmed Qurei in which Jerusalem is being divided, despite Olmert’s dubious denials.
• Shas’ egregious failure to keep their promise to leave the government, despite the now open fact that Jerusalem is being divided.
• Shas’ opting for deals, such as the Givat Ze’ev project — housing for Shas constituents and $475 million NIS and more in exchange for their continued presence in the government and facilitation of division of Jerusalem.
• The fact that Israeli government lack of credibility is such that the public and legislators believe more pronouncements of enemies rather than Regime denials such as that of Mahmoud Abbas’s announcement that Egypt mediated a “hudna” with Hamas in Gaza or regarding Jerusalem division talks.
• Abject failure of the Olmert regime, at all levels, to secure the nation against terrorist acts; be they by way of rockets and mortars, drive-by and rock-throwing terror and lynchings, lack of enablement of credible military responses to all forms of terror, lack of security in public buildings enabling such acts as the terror pogrom at Yeshiva Merkaz HaRav to occur, willful neglect or failure of the police to act as in their hesistance to enter the Yeshiva which enabled the toll of terror death and casualties to mount and more.

Olmert, facing pressure from “the nations” coupled with self-hatred for Jewishness and overwhelming lust for perpetuation of his prime ministerial power, will back down on Givat Ze’ev just as sure as he backed down on mounting a credible invasion of Gaza, just as he backed down on connecting Ma’alei Adumim to Jerusalem, just as he invaded Lebanon hodge-podge, not to win, in July 2006. read more

The file on the Olmert regime’s malfeasance, nonfeasance, irresponsibility and abject neglect of the nation’s security is bulging in the case of the Islamic murderer who perpetrated the Thursday night pogrom at the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva.

Alaa Abu Dhein was arrested by defense forces four months ago and then released two months later.

The phenomenon of assimilation in Chutz L’Aretz is to be like everyone else; to conform, to “melt” and thus, more often than not, it leads toward mixed-marriage.

In Israel, the tendency toward assimilation on a national level — “a nation like all other nations,” lends itself to political correctness and negation of the uniqueness of Jewish nationhood. This political correctness squashes Jewish nationalism and our ages-long unseverable link with Eretz Yisrael. It is this political assimilation which leads to perverted pre-occupation of thousands of Israel’s police and soldiers with persecuting and expelling Jews as Israeli road-carnage continues, crime continues unanswered and Arab terror attacks are rampant on the roads, in Jerusalem’s Old City, via Kassams from Gaza, etc. infinitum.
