Parshat Vayigash 5774: Yosef, the Brothers, Real Teshuvah and, Our Connection to Our Roots Today?

by Moshe Burt

Every so often, over the past 8 1/2 years since the expulsion of our brethren from their homes and neighborhoods in Gush Katif and the 4 Shomron towns, there is a piece on one of the news sites, or one of our brethren receives an email voicing regret from someone who either previously supported the expulsion or who sat on their hands and did nothing, and who now would express contrition and beg forgiveness from their evicted brethren in the hope of either clearing their personal consciences, or sincerely seek peace within Am Yisrael. read more

Kadima/Labor Political Rhetoric of de-Legitimizing, de-Humanizing of Jews

.
Commentary:

Amidst his mourning over the loss of his son and daughter-in-law in last week’s Mumbai Chabad House terror attack, Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg issued an urgent plea to outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to stop plans to expel the Jewish residents of the Hevron Peace House.

In his plea, Rabbi Holtzberg beseeched Olmert;

“At the same time we are mourning for our dear children…who merited in their lives and in their deaths to bring wonderful unity to the People of Israel and to bring everyone closer in love and truth, and who were sacrificed on the holy altar of the Almighty before the eyes of every nation, …we plead in every way possible that you not carry out any action that will polarize and cause a schism to the People of Israel, that would cause in the time of mourning of all the People of Israel.” read more

Ramat Beit Shemesh Shuls Pray at Hevron’s Beit HaShalom

.
Commentary;

On Thursday afternoon, a bus load of members of 2 Ramat Beit Shemesh Kehillot; Beit Tefillah Yona Avraham, Menorat Hamaor and their Rabbanim Rav Chaim Zev Malinowitz and Rav Daniel Myers travelled to Hevron to pray before Rosh Chodesh Kislev and to give chizuk to all living in the “Peace House” — Beit HaShalom who face the prospect of sudden eviction by the immoral, unethical, UnJewish regime which governs the Jewish State. As we came close to Kiryat Arba, we made a stop to view the ruins resulting from the regime’s Yassamnik pogrom which utterly trashed and destroyed the Federman-Tor Farm as well as persecuting the families living there. As the Yassamnikim did their detestable deeds, IDF Officers tricked a group of Yeshiva student soldiers into standing guard over the event under the guise of searching for terrorists. In so doing, the soldiers stationed on the periphery unwittingly stopped and turned back Jews coming to the aid of the Federman-Tor families telling them that the area was dangerous, that the IDF was searching for terrorists. read more

Jonathan Pollard, Beit HaShalom: On Our Minds, in Our Hearts, Prayers

.

The title speaks to 2 of THE major issues (if that’s the most appropriate term to use) very much on the mind of religious Jews in Israel, and hopefully in the US as we approach the end of Chodesh Mar-Cheshvan and Rosh Kodesh Kislev. The other two issues are, of course, the election campaign and the economy — in Israel, the US and internationally.

Firstly, Jonathan Pollard. Here is neither the place, nor the time for a rehash of Jonathn Pollard’s This author has compiled a category entitled Jonathan Pollard where readers can view blog posts dating back to January, 2006. To be informed about the entire Pollard case, click on Justice for Jonathan Pollard: the official website authorized by Jonathan and Esther Pollard. read more

Chief Rabbis Discourage Firecrackers

.
Commentary;

The Mercaz HaRav pogrom has had a profound impact on the Rabbanim.

One may recall that many in the community mistook the terrorist’s gunshots for firecrackers.

On Sunday, Rav Kanievsky issued p’sak banning employment of Arabs.

Now the Chief Ashkenaz and S’fardi Rabbis have issued a ban on firecrackers. Perhaps now, if Israelis bother to listen to Rabbis (highly doubtful), we may hear less of those booms around Ramat Beit Shemesh which sound very much like gunfire or Kassams. MB read more

Will Olmert Regime Back Down on Givat Ze’ev, Stiff Shas?

.
Commentary;

There is a type of “convergence” of several major stories of this time into one;

Olmert, facing pressure from “the nations” coupled with self-hatred for Jewishness and overwhelming lust for perpetuation of his prime ministerial power, will back down on Givat Ze’ev just as sure as he backed down on mounting a credible invasion of Gaza, just as he backed down on connecting Ma’alei Adumim to Jerusalem, just as he invaded Lebanon hodge-podge, not to win, in July 2006. read more
