Commentary;

There are undoubtedly many more Bieber, Dayan-like stories which regarding the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif and the Shomron which have not yet surfaced. Here’s one thanks to Naomi Ragen;

The Taxi Driver, by Naomi Ragen

Excerpts;

“I worked for the Ministry of Defense. I was a security guard.”

We spoke a little more, and I began to realize that I was in the presence of one of the men from those select units who protect the lives of our most powerful citizens, including our former prime minister. [...]  Click here to read more.

Full Text;

Staff Sergeant Hananel (Meged) Dayan received the award during an Independence Day ceremony on Wednesday and was tried Thursday. He first appeared before his IDF Regiment Commander, who said he understood Dayan’s actions but that according to military regulations he must stand trial before the Brigade Commander.

The Brigade Commander ruled that Dayan be stripped of the award for outstanding service, including the revoking of a $1,500 cash prize. He also ruled that Dayan, who is a tank driver, is no longer eligible to be either a commander or a combat soldier. [...]  Click here to read more.

The Sgt. Dayan Case: IDF Degrading Due to Rejecting, De-Humanizing its Best Soldiers and Recruits, the Religious?

Our World: The IDF’s Suicide Attempt, by Caroline Glick

Excerpts;

… The IDF’s treatment of Dayan; its new recruitment guidelines and Halutz’s anti-religious rhetoric reveal a dangerous politicization of the IDF. It seems that today, with Hamas now in charge of the Palestinian Authority and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz now in charge of Israel, the IDF views Israelis rather than Arabs as its principal threat. Halutz and Stern, in criminalizing actions like Dayan’s while minimizing the significance of the Hamas takeover of the Palestinian Authority are sending a clear signal of where they believe the IDF should be devoting its energies. [...]  Click here to read more.

Guess What: Barak, Not Shimshon Battalion, Politicized IDF!

Commentary:

Many of you may wonder why this blog has been silent for awhile, aside from the weekly Parsha HaShevua.

Frankly, it’s been a case of basically the same recurrent news, day after day. How many times and in how many different ways can one comment on the same news, again and again with only the names and the specific events changing, but essentially remaining the same? This author has been commenting on recurring news for the 4 plus years that this blog has been in existence plus years before. [...]  Click here to read more.

Out-of-Court Settlement Turns Tables on IDF Manpower Chief General Elazar Stern

.

Commentary:

In May, 2008, IDF Sgt. Hananel Dayan found himself expelled from the IDF for his failure to shake the hand of then Chief of Staff Dan Halutz during a ceremony honoring 120 outstanding IDF soldiers, of which Dayan was one. Dayan opted-out of shaking Halutz’s hand as his (Dayan’s) family was among the Jews expelled from Gush Katif in August, 2005. Immediately after the incident, Dayan was verbally dressed-down by IDF Manpower Chief General Elazar Stern. Two links, here and here, recall the incident. [...]  Click here to read more.

Parsha Shelach 5767: Moshe’s Blessing to Yehoshua — Paradigm of a Real Jewish Leader

By Moshe Burt

Prior to the Miraglim setting out on their mission to Eretz Yisrael, Moshe Rabbeinu prayed for Hoshea, that he should gain the strength, conviction and principle to stand against the false testimony of the other spies and to eventually lead B’nei Yisrael. Parsha Pinchas 5766: On Zealousness, On Courage: What is and What’s Not…

By Moshe Burt

We learn about the root for the momentus event of Pinchas’ zealous act against Zimri and Kosbi from an obscure posuk in Parsha Ki Tisa. “Vet Aaron v’et banav timshach v’kiddashtah otam l’Cohen Li” — Hashem tells Moshe Rabbeinu; “You shall annoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them as priests unto me.” And we ask, What happened to that Pinchas ben Elazar ben Aaron Ha Kohen.  [...]  Click here to read more.

Nadia Matar ‘Insult Trial’ Begins

Excerpts;

Matar is charged with violating a law that prohibits Israeli citizens from insulting public officials, a move that her lawyer, Yoram Sheftel, said was indicative of the double standard applied to the right and left political spectrums in Israel.

“Just this week the daughter of the Prime Minister, which [sic] is an extreme leftist activist, accused the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army of being ‘a murderer’, which is exactly the same offense,” he said. “I can bet my life,” he added,”that not only will the daughter of Olmert not be charged as Nadia Matar – she will not even be investigated.” [...]  Click here to read more.

Olmert’s Arguments for “Convergence”: Demographics, Existential Threat, “Settlements Create Friction with the Palestinians”: Bogus Myths As Israel Loses Frustrated Important Friends …

I Give Up on Israel, by Joseph Farah

Excerpts;

I am through defending Israel – at least the regime currently in power in Jerusalem, this useless coalition seemingly hell-bent on committing national suicide.

Next week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, a man I once considered, like his predecessor, Ariel Sharon, a reasonable, rational, level-headed defender of his country, is set to visit Washington with his hand out.

He is asking for an initial commitment of up to $10 billion in direct U.S. aid to implement his plan for national retreat, appeasement of the global jihad and a new sellout of more than 200,000 Israeli civilians who have made their homes in historically Jewish lands in Judea and Samaria at the behest and recommendation of earlier Israeli governments.  [...]  Click here to read more.
